Me again! Presently feeding my 5 yr old 17.2 Irish Draft X 2 scoops alfalfa and 1 scoop pony nuts + supplements/carrots once a day. He's out 0800 - 1600 on good grazing (for time of year) and stabled at night with ad lib hay. Doing very little work and holding his weight. Is this the right amount of hard feed?

The Fact that he is holding his weight and presumably has enough energy to do the work you are asking of him sugests that this is plenty of feed for him.

All I'd sugest is splitting that smae amount over two feeds as it is quite a large amount of feed for a horse to eat in one go...

I agree with CB.

I have a 16.1hh mare, she's in medium work and get half scoop Dengie good-doer, half scoop Spillers high fibre cubes, her Blue Chip Balancer and about half a small cup of warm speedi-beet.

She is a good doer and I have to really watch her weight, I'm happy at the moment as she's about right.
