Got the chance of a 10 year old Ifor Williams Hunter trailer.
Good condition outside but reckon the wooden floor will need replacing.
Any ideas as the owners are quite elderly and don't know what its worth.
Cheers

£2000???

I'd offer them £700... TOPS

Friend sold her 510 which was about the same age. She asked £1750 and accepted £1500 for it, but the floor was in good condition.

Hi tiggy1, I dont want to dishearten you but I have always been told if the floor is rotten then the whole trailer could be in need of repare. Apparently the side panels have wood inside to support the trailer so obviously they would also be rotten, I would steer clear unless it is well cheap. Good luck

The side panels are about £200 each. give them a nudge, are the breast bars holding in place, are the panels "bad" down at the bottom where the wheels are? I needed one panel (offside) when I had the floor replaced. Total job price including a service was £700. (2 years ago) Mines about 10 years old too.

It's quite possible it's still fine depending on how its been stored. Tyres are about £40 each if it needs any new ones.

I would say between £1500 and £1800. Does it leak? I am assuming its the sort that from the outside is exactly like the newest 505/510's? If it's the older style than those ones, then less.

I sold a 25yr old ifor williams a couple of months ago.

I replaced the floor with brand new double layer of 1" thick ply and also the bottom of the walls. Plus new rubber matting and new wood in the partition. As someone else mentioned, the bottom of the walls, esp at the back, are most likely to be rotten too if the floor is. It was in otherwise fairly good condition. The brakes needs a overhaul and a couple lights need replaced.

I sold it for £750 and could have got £1000 for it easily enough, if I had time to do the little bits and bobs.

I was quoted £300 to have the floor replaced with new wood WITHOUT rubber matting put down. New aluminium floor was £400+. So I did the floor, walls and matting myself for £300, inc paint.

The one thing you really need to investigate is WHY the floors rotted. It's often because the roof or sides are leaking, letting water seep down under the floor and bottom of the wall.

If the trailers otherwise in good conditions (brakes etc all working), jut the floor (and poss bottom of the walls) needing replaced, it's prob worth £1000, maybe a bit more. If you got it for £800 you'd get an amazing deal.

We sold our old 2 horse Ifor - was the big blue one - 510 I think its called? It was the last generation on Ifors to have the wooden floor and we had it changed by Ifor to the Aluminium floor - so guess it was least 8 yrs old -...? sold for £2200
It had been barn kept and was otherwise imaculate.
They sure do hold their value!

we have an 11 year old IW505. we bought it about 4 years ago for £2k. it was slightly faded, but immaculate inside, didn't look like a horse had been in it. It had been sitting a while, so at the time we replaced a couple of tyres which had perished, they were about £30 each. & the rear section of floor, (marine ply) which had a crack in it. We also had to thoroughly service the brakes/damper etc. other than that it runs fantastic. we keep a regular check on the floor and we are about to replace the front section at a cost of £116 (front part only)for the section of marine ply from IW. We could replace the whole floor with an aluminuim one for £270 (parts only). the ramp will also need attention soon as on one corner you can see the binding is starting to lift from the wood. & there is a small leak in the roof behind the vent where the 2 sections meet. You can also remove and reseal this section, or get a new section of roof from IW if necessary. While it's off the road getting the floor/ramp & roof done, we also plan on getting the panels sprayed to smarten it up.

We also chose to replace the emergency brake cable and the electric cable for a coiled one and plan to get windows fitted at the front (sides), which you can get from IW for about £65 each, that and new mudguards and it will practically be as good as new. You can google IW parts & download a brochure with all the parts, you can replace everything from a bolt to the roof, so they are easy keep on top of jobs maintain.

If you have someone handy enough to do maintenance jobs for you, then it's well worth getting an older trailer, otherwise servicing and repair could work out expensive. If we were selling ours now, i.e., with the new floor.ramp & roof fixed, but without the respray & windows, we would probably ask £1500 because it is in very good condition, well serviced and maintained. So you could look at paying maximum £1200 for yours if everything else is in really excellent condition, but check the condition of the tyres and damper, panels, roof bolts and fixings etc, and knock a bit off according to the IW parts prices for everything else you see that needs attention.
