how much for a hunter...

How much would a 10 year old 15.2hh hunter go for these days? Goes first or last, stands still at the meet, doesn't jog on roads, keeps up, easy to control, fine with hounds, will stand to do gates, jumps absolutely EVERYTHING and has been on point with the whipper-in, leading the whole field over the best jumping country... but due to height would only be suitable for teen/lady. Not only a hunter, also brilliant showjumper upto 1.10m classes with lots of BSJA winnings...hacks, pony club, 100% everything etc etc... has evented but this isn't really her forte, so we want to sell her as a hunter as she really is the most perfect hunter you could possibly find!! Has jumped 5bar gates, barbed wire, adores hedges... can't praise her enough out hunting! Will keep going all day every day over any country.. doesn't lose much weight when hunting if looked after properly.

Around here people easily pay 6-8k for a hunter, often even more for a big quality mans horse, but as you say, shes a ladies horse so 6-8k
 
I had a 15.2hh hunter, just as you describe - 100% with hounds, jumped anything etc etc. She was only 5yo though (and it was her first season). Done a bit of unaffiliated dressage, great to hack etc. We sold her for £6000 in February - farmer had seen her hunting and wanted her. She was a Suffolk Punch cross though, so fairly chunky and up to any weight.

I have also sold a 17hh hunter, 10yo, ex-HOYS reserve champion, super horse, hunted with master etc. Sold him for £3250 as had lots of scars, knocks and bumps - none that would fail a vetting but he was a very ugly sole bless him, and hunting season had finished when we sold him.

I'd probably say yours is worth somewhere between the two, perhaps around the £5000 mark... At the end of the day, it all depends how much someone wants him.
 
I wouldnt limit yourself to selling as a hunter, I would sell her as a good allrounder. Reckon you could get 7k if safe on roads, hacking etc etc with her BSJA record aswell.

KatB she is a saint on the roads, she has been a "nanny" for my youngster and doesn't fizz up in big open fields etc, and no traffic phases her whatsoever.
Do you think she would be better off being sold as an allrounder then? I do want to emphasise her hunting abilities as she is awsome on the hunting field- if she was jumping foxhunters then I would advertise her with more emphasise on her showjumping abilities, but her limit really is newcomers (maybe fox with a better rider than me!).

Would £5950 sound ok or is that abit too much? She is 100% in and out of stable, all the usuals- box, shoe, clip, catch, traffic etc...has never needed the vet.
 
I hunted her with the Worcesters last season, she was hunted with the Quorn for the previous 2 years

Didn't take her out as much as would of liked last year as we did alot of winter showjumping at the same time.
 
I would speak to one of the masters or perhaps the people who do the hunt horses, they quite often know of people looking. It's getting towards the time of year that people start looking for hunters again and the best way they sell is word of mouth.
 
she sounds like my perfect horse!! if only I had my own land and more in my saving!

I think if you sell her as an allrounder and an amazing hunter you will get at least 6k!

I've been looking for your exact horse for about 3 months now and they are very few and far between - definitely upwards from £6K - just check out the hunter section on HHO and you'll see loads listed at alot more. I'm actually picked up my new horse tomorrow and have paid around that price. I'm sure she'll easily sell - have a look at how they advertise hunters/allrounders on Horsequest and you'll see how she compares but certainly don't undersell her - she sounds worth her weight in gold to a hunting mum who may want to nanny kids out on Saturdays and have a faster day during the week....wish I'd heard about her last week! Shame! She would be fab for someone to lead their child off out hunting too, infact her old owner did just that! Will have a look on horsequest/h&h at the adverts, thanks

regarding price someone i know spent £7500 on something like your mare but it was bigger and chunkier and had only ever done a bit of dressage but was brilliant out hacking and hunting. Your mare sounds fab though
