I am shortly moving to a DIY yard where I'll be the only one there. I am wondering how much to pay for a friend for a muck out when I'm away.

How much are you paying per muck out? per day of stable kept horse care?

I look after a horse at our yard...owner pays me £8 per day, includes turnout and bring in am/pm, rugs, feet picked out, feed, hay nets, full muck out.

will yr friend be making 2 journeys a day - turnout & bring in & how much mileage is involved - minimum wage is about 6 quid an hour - so prob need to pay for an hrs work & then something for petrol

I pay someone to do our three on a Sunday. She feeds, turns out (if we want them out), does haynets, mucks out, fills water buckets, sweeps yard, and tidies muck heap. She also lets hens out and skips them out. We pay her £15, which is a lot compared to what some people on here pay, but she has never let us down whatever the weather, and so I think she deserves a reasonable amount. She has to get to us too.

I charge £2 for JUST a muck-out, extras on top amount to approx £1 per job. So turn-out, muck-out, do hay and water would be £5.

Where I am its £5 a day if you have it done very often or £7 for an occasional muck out. Since your friend wouldn't be there doing her horse anyway and need to travel there id say about £7 or £8 so long as your yard isn't a long drive away.

PS a while ago i was doing two extra horses at £10 a day per horse for muck out, hay, water and make feeds, i also gave the horses teatime hay and feed as that was the time i did there jobs so I thought i may as well. This cost was decided by the owners insurance company as she was injured in a crash. (I think it was the insurers who decided it anyway, either that or some other professional.)

I'd say £10 a day,
my yard is quite expensive for extras;
m/o - £8
b/i / t/o - £3 each
water, feeds & haynet - £1
rug change, quick brush & feet - £1
so for one day that equals £17 !!!
