Hello everyone :)

I clip horses for other people through the winter and Ive had a few people call this week asking about prices, I've just realised that Ive never put my prices up (been doing this for 5 years) I always thought I was quite expensive but the few people who Ive spoken to so far this year seem to think I'm very cheap :D

I have decided to add a mileage charge, which Ive never done before but it seem unavoidable with the price of fuel been so high now, my physio, saddler and edt are all charging for mileage so i thought I should to, would you be happy to pay a mileage charge? (first 5 miles are free, 30p per mile there after, I charge for the return journey)

How much whould you expect to pay for the folowing clips in 2010/11?

Bid
Trace (low)
Trace (high)
Blanket
Full (excluding face and legs)
Full (incuding face and legs)

I wouldn't balk at having to pay a mileage charge. and the first 5 miles free is a good idea.

I pay £25 for a full clip, £5 for just the bib and chin, £15 for a trace or blanket

I asked last year and was advised (incl travel) that my low trace was going to be £20 and my full was £25 as he was there anyway.
In the end (due to availability problems) I hired a set of clippers, with oil and a spare set of blades on a rechargable clipper for £30 from Sat morning to Sunday morning and I did 3 in that time.

Lol Minime I got covered in white hairs from the full clip, but it meant that my slightly nervous boy could watch and listen to the noise so by the time I got to him he was nearly asleep. My clippers also came with a spare battery and both batteries were pre charged. Not sure really why I want to buy my own mmmm.

Last winter I ended up paying £45 for a high trace!! And I wasnt the only person who she was clipping for that day. Unfortunately a mobile clipping service had to cancel so this woman was a last minute choice and I forgot to ask how much before she started clipping!

But I think a reasonable price would be:

Bib - £10
Trace (low) - £15
Trace (high) - £20
Blanket - £25
Full (excluding face and legs) - £30
Full (incuding face and legs) - £35

Hunter or Blanket is £35. He says it's just as time consuming to do the 'lines'.

I was charged £15 for a chaser on the Sec B as was having my TB clipped out at the same time.

I think that would be a reasonable price list for clipping.

I think these prices are very good, I live in Italy and have been going round clipping for years. The prices here are much higher, I get between €60-€80 Most horses are clipped out totally and most of the ones I end up doing are total head cases to clip (young show jumpers), it takes about 2 hours from start to finish per horse, not to mention the amount of hair I eat.

Do you have any insurance or anything to clip? I've got clippers and theres not many people local to me that offer clipping so I thought I might have a bash at offering my services, but then thought I may have to get some sort of insurance?!?

hunter clip - exc luding legs and half head - i'd pay £30...

then i have to add on vet call out, intravenous sedation and broken clippers when my horses still manages to kick under heavy sedation - doh :(

Sessle, I don't have a specific insurance which is why I don't like clipping much any more (Trying to be a responsible mum). most of the horses I clip are like Posie's. I do dope them myself as I don't trust the vets here very much this way I make sure they are well out of it. hehehhee :D

We used to get someone to come out to do the yard and she'd charge per horse no matter what clip you had. Think it was £40 for 1, £35 for 2, £30 for 3, £25 for 4 etc, going down to £15 for 6 or more. No fuel charges. So great value when doing a yard full of hunters! Not so good if you have one with a bib clip!

Also used other people who charged per type of clip but did special deals for a whole yard. Saves them travelling about during the day so easier for them. We'd have a yard clipping day and everyone would have them all done and saved money by not having to each pay fuel costs and got a big discount for having so many done.
