A friend is selling her much loved gelding. He's by Welton Apollo

16.3 hh Stunning Dark bay Gelding. Registered Sports Horse who can jump.
He's 8yrs old. Scored over 60 first time out in unaffiliated dressage. Good to Box,Shoe, Catch etc. Hacks alone/in company. He's got loads of potential and is a real head turner. How much do you think she should advertise him for?

tbh in this climate i would trawl the net and see what horses with his ability are fetching

Although he has good breeding dosnt sound like he has done alot???which will lower his price, unless someone trys him and feels alot of potential

I know it's a difficult one as you say.

She wants a good home for him and that is more important than big bucks, but she doesn't want to advertise him too cheaply as that often puts people off.

He is sound and ready to go far in a competition home. Really could do with some ideas.

based on the info given i'd say about 4k. i realise that he's well bred but he hasn't actually done very much himself to 'prove' that he's good- as an 8 year old i would personally want more concrete results (its ok to talk of 'potential' in a 4/5/6 year old but why hasn't this been achieved by the time he's got to 8?

if i were your friend i would get him out to BD novice a couple of times, get a few points on him and also get some dbl clears BSJA and then she'd be looking at a lot more money- people want to see a definite CV rather than speculation
