i am cionsidering buying a 14h , tri coloured 3 year old pony,(gelding) quite fine, great confirmation etc - gorgeous, gorgeous!! however he is practically untouched, hard to get near in paddock and even in stable etc so would have to start rite at beggining with him . I have fallen in love with him, belongs to farmer down the road who is selling him. how much would ppl pay for this pony approx? i know nothing of his breeding etc but would love to start him and sell on in a couple of years, opinions on price please!!!

Meat money given that if you can't get near him you won't be able to get him vetted and there could be anything wrong with him. Why is he so unhandled?

the ppl that have him bought him from sales with other pony who has been broken in. had him a year now but, the guys wife was v ill and had to pack everything in so pony been left preety much. u can get near him ... eventually so could get him vetted ... probably! he isnt completely wild or anything just has hardly been handled but once caught could kind of lead him to stable so in theorycould get vetted.

At Leominster sales the horse would fetch £3k, so anything less!
A solid coloured horse would be worth no more than £500. I would go to £1000 if the conformation was really that good.
Bit wild isnt a bother, he will come to hand within a couple of weeks.

I paid £200 for a 2 y.o. pony that had never had any human contact... he had to be herded onto my trailer by 4 x 4.... 6 months later he's as good as gold so would worry about that aspect! Depends how much the pony is worth to you - whether you plan to keep him or sell him for a profit later on? Start by offering much lower than you are willing to pay and go from there!

yeah, want him to bring on , then sell on. cant afford that much, but i think they are aware how popular coloureds but then again are keen to get rid, but to a nice home, and they know me. Just think he will ask me to make an offer and dont know where to start!

Ive just bought a 13hh unbroken 4 year old that has done nothing for a year. he has show potential and great bloodlines. the owner was going to sell him for £1000 but managed to knock it down to £500. i would say £500-600 would be about right.

Presumably he has not had his feet done, no vaccinations, no worming. I'd not pay more than £500 even if he is coloured!! Does he have a Passport?

I paid £740 for a halter broken (only just though) 3 yrs reg section D from Leominster, didn't realise at the time quite how unhandled he was or I might not have gone that high! He was pretty much carried onto the wagon by 3 welshmen.
Two weeks later he was walking in and out of the trailer and catchable in the field with a headcollar on. 6 months later he's broken and riding really well.
Good luck

thanks, yep he has passport, vaccines etc he is just v v unhandeled!think im just gonna make an offer of around 500 and see wat happens!
