I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but approximately how much hay would you expect to give a 15.2 TB, living out and fed ad lib during an average winter?
I'd say, 'budget' for 1/2 small bale per day then calc according to how long 'winter' is in your part of the country. I've made and kept 80 small bales for my 16'2 horse (on 1/2 bale per day).
Mine would get the equivalent of a small bale a day over winter, but we had poor grazing over winter, so depends if there is still grass left for him? This winter I'll use half of that to feed 2 as I have plenty of grass in the winter field. They don't get hard feed either
We've 2 ponies - a native lives on thin air and a skinny poor do-er, who prob would eat the equivalent of your TB between them. We expect to use 100-140 bales with little/poor grazing.
