How much hay/haylage does your horse get through in a week?

Mine go out during the day ,one of my fields doesn't have much grass so they have a section each outside and if its frosty they all have hay outside.
I think they have 3 bales each a week[horses] 2 bales each [ponies]

My 14.2 pony is out during the day from about 7am - 4pm and then whilst he is in at night he has 8pounds of haylage.
He is deffinetly not under weight if anything a little over.

My 2 get through 7 bales of Hay a week. They are both out for near on 10 hours a day, 1 on good grazing and therefore no Hay and my Old Boy in a wood chippings paddock .... so he has Hay all day long .....

What about you then

or should I say your horse(s)?

my 15hh welsh cob used to get 1flap in field during the morning (7-2pm) then a net for the afternoon (from 2pm til 6pm - 2flaps) then 5 flaps for the night so 8 small bale flaps a day. i always ordered enough hay so that i had 5 bales a week although he didnt always get through that so i might only order 2 bales the following week. he was stabled for 17/18 hrs a day

at current yard he has 1 large bale flap a night mon-thu then 1 & 1/2 fri- sun night as he comes in slightly earlier. he has no hay in field unless ground was frozen/snow. he is stabled 111/12 hrs a day

Mine's in 24/7 at the moment and is getting through about two slices of large bale haylage a day, difficult to know how that equates in terms of bales as shared between lots of horses, but I would guess 1/2 - 2/3 of a 300kg bale a week.

As a general rule of thumb when the horses were out 12 hours a day and in the other 12 with haylage only when in, 1 large bale would do 4 horses a week

My horse has a full slice of large bale hayledge at night every night end of oct through till about beggining of may if she is in through the day she has roughly 3/4 of a slice. They are only kept in if the weather is really bad ( have been in for 9 days in total this winter so far )
We have 10 horses of various sizes at the yard that have hayledge and we get through about 3 large bales a week.
We dont use anything in the field. Hope that helps

My 8 (horses/ponies/foal) go through a large bale of haylage in 6/7 days. They are out most of the day and don't get haylage in the field as there's still plenty of grass to pick at. They have a small amount of haylage in the morning before they go out and then get their main ration at night. They go through more if they have to stay in as they then get some during the day.

I use three small bales of haylage for 2 horses, out for a few hours a day. I estimate that is aboout 7- 8kg per horse per day (both about 16hh good doers though). It works out better for me being at a yard when haylage is bought or supplied separately , otherwise I end up subsidising someone's skinny thoroughbred! I had a young horse several years ago that would easily get through 20kg per day without putting on wieght, so there can be a huge variation.

I don't really know - As he is on big bales of haylage and hay too. I am religious about making sure he has ad-lib forage when stabled - Which is between 3pm and 9am. If frosty he has some outside too. So he gets through plenty!

On our yard the horses are in around 5pm and out again around 7.30. A bale of haylage lasts a week with 3 horses. They each have a halage net in the morning and one at night M also has an extra net at night so 7 nets a day. The other 2 horses do get a small net of hay on a night aswell as the haylage. When we had 5 horses an extra large bale lasted 5 days with them having 2 nets a day.

I have two horses and am having a big problem with haylage this winter.I'm not using a round bale quick enough even though i am giving them a huge net and a pile every night when they are in or a huge pile on the floor when they are out (if the weathers good). The bale is going off before i can use it so therefore half a big round bale is going manky. The Haylage is top quality and cheap.I have just ordered a round bale of hay so will see if thats any better.

We're lucky that I can rotate Daisy's grazing so there is still loads of grass in her field which fills her up. Because of that she is never that hungry when she comes in at night and so we get through just under 2 small bales a week. I know that doesn't sound much but she always has some left in the morning

Horses out 9-2

17hh IDxTB and 14.2 Haflinger

Both get 3 bales of good hay a week each, but Haffie hardly gets any hard feed on top whereas IDxTB gets Blue Chip etc (gold nugget more like......) :-)

we get through around 1 1/2 bales of horsehage a day for two horses- they live out with open access to their stables- they get two large nets a day each- one in the morning and one early evening which seems to be about right for them- except for today- its very frozen with a layer of snow so we have put in five nets between the two stables to keep them happy, as not much grazing to be had!

bracken is out every day from about 9 till 6 regardless of the weather (as i say to some peeps at my yard she is'nt going to rust or shrink in the rain!!), she goes through half a bale of haylidge a week. they are large bales so share the bale with a friend. bracken has a huge net of a night and there is always some left in the morning! she's 15.2 and does get hard feed in the morning and evening

Right now (with 2 horses & 2 ponies out 24/7 and 1 pony who's stabled at night) they are between them getting through 1 1/2 - 2 square bales of hay. Which actually I dont think is that much, but I simply top up whatever they eat so its up to them if they want more!

Two of my boys are on hay and we go through 1 and /34 bales a day.... the other one has 1 whole section of haylage (from a large bale) twice a day.....

Other field occupants, 1 horse, 2 small ponies get through a round bale in about 10 days...

I have three horses and three ponies and a couple of llamas and we get through 6 square bales a day.

The big three get two in the morning and two at night and the ponies have 3/4 of a bales morning and night.

around 4 bales of hay a week, for one 15hh who doesnt get much turnout at the moment due to building an indoor school on his old field!

welsh D out 24/7 has 10kg hay split between am and p.m plus grazing and a small hard feed, he has more hay if very cold, but i don't add-lib it as have found in the past it makes a horrendus mess and stops the grass coming through!
welsh C out during day in at night, has 10kg hay overnight, usually a bit left in the morning.
cob, FAT so only has 8kgs of gelston haylage overnight, grazing during the day, she also has oat straw to nibble on in the stable so she has a constant flow of food...but low calorie, she has haylage as always coughs on hay.
hard to tell how many bales as i buy the big round ones but they last 4-6 weeks depending on weather, and the cob gets through 2 bales of gelston a week.
