I have 2 horses - one TB 16.1hh in medium work. the other an older mare in very light work, 15.3hh. They are turned out from 4 to 5 hours a day. I know you are meant to feed approx 1.5 times the amount of hay but how much would that be? Merry Xmas everyone

A yard that we supply feeds 12-13kg per horse per day in work with no turnout. It also depends on the analysis of the haylage.
How much other feed are you using? I know of several people feeding good haylage ad lib and cutting back feed to suit, especially with the price of feed as it is!!

do please feed it ad-lib. you can always cut back or even cut out the bucket feed. the horse is ment to eat for 16-18 hours a day.Ad-lib haylage will satify this necessity.

I have two 16.2hh t.b.s they have ad lib haylage, a big square bale costs me £22.00 lasts me a week, they only have one feed aday, 2 csoops mix one beet, 1 chaff plus cold liver oil and look really well, they are in light work.

My mare ( 16.3hh/ 640kg) get's through 8-10 kg of haylage a night (6pm-7am), there's always a little left in the morning.

Plus ATM I put out a good 15kg in the day field for her, 2 x TB and an Arab to share. There's usually a bit left but not much!

ETS: 3 of us chip in on a large round bale which costs £18 and lasts for 7 days
