Funny you should ask that, I have my vets bill for a gelding in front of me. It reads like this:

Visit fee - £20.28
Castration colt - £45.60
Domosedan -£24.96
Torbugesic Injection - £9.05
Tetanus Antitoxin - £12.84
Danilon Sachets - £7.91

I guess this comes to £120.64 before VAT, so about £145 with VAT.

However, what can add up is what happens next, depite the best of efforts and doing everything right, my boy got a very sudden onset infection in the wound which resulted in another £200 on top of this :(
Better now though and not missing his bits at all! :D

I have just had quotes for my lad, the average price seems to be around £90 plus vat then you have the drugs and call out fee on top of that, i am guessing it will be around £200 for my boy, i have had some quotes that are as high as £350!!!

i had seen a very sweet little 2 year old gypsy cob colt for sale locally on DD. There is something about him i love but as he's a colt i dont think it's feasible.

Thanks for the info though :)

Depends on the vet.

My horsey vet - £180

My rougher, more farm animal specialist vet - £120

My friend's ex army vet - £90

All depends on who you want doing the job!

Our vet quoted us between £150 and £250... Tuesdays are our 'cheap callout' days so that's only £20 included in there... The rest could vary due to any difference in drugs/time etc...

They do want you to book for an early slot - just to make sure they can come back out later in the day if there are any concerns rather than doing it late and maybe something important missed over night...

it varies from practice to practise and area! why dont you phone your vet and ask for their price? obvs hoping it all goes well and straightforward. (have a spare £100 in case of infection/complications). most castrations go smoothly!
