Need a sharer for my neddy :D
He will only have front feet but obviously need feed and hay over the winter plus the odd bits and bobs and I dont mind him being competed by them at weekends
so i was thinking is £10 a week about right ?
hes kept on our own property so its not like livery fees are needed.
and also is it totally reasonable i ask what weight they are?
and is some form of contract a good idea? he is 3rd party insured though

thanks in advance ! xx

I was a sharer in similar circumstances to yours (own land so no livery as such) before I bought my lad. I paid £35 per month so comparable to what you are thinking considering that was a couple of years ago. So I would say you are being very reasonable. I would think about having an agreement of some sort. Outlining what you expect of your sharer in terms of how many times a week they can ride and the stable duties you would like them to do. That way there can't be any confusion. I would also ask them to consider taking out rider insurance as much to cover themselves as your horse. Thats as much as I can think of atm. Good luck finding someone. I'd like to think I made a good sharer so they can be found. As far as the weight issue goes you could put a weight limit in your ad which would hopefully sort that problem for you.

i should also add that he isnt stable kept so no mucking out and we rotate the fields so no mucking out duties, i would just expect them to feed him if they come of an evening and obviously brush him, maby tack clean every so often.
They would have acess to hacking and a grass arena with jumps to use, so i guess they would be paying less since they dont have a sand school to use?
Any rough guide to how much per week would be great ! Ive never shared a horse before so have no idea of costs !!

thats very helpfull thankyou ! I would idealy be wanting them to ride 3 times during the working week i think and flexible on weekends

I think thats reasonable because no proper school with floodlights in winter will be a massive downside on the frozen days when the ground is too hard and if the person works it would be dark. Having said that do you have an area that can be lit to ride in in winter? :). You should easily find someone for £10 a week though.
As for insurance I would make sure they have riders insurance because often your insurance wont cover the horse when you are not riding it (BHS is great!). Also if the horse is third party only I would strongly suggest some sort of contract which states who pays what part of the vet bill if the horse is injured whilst being ridden by the sharer! I have a sharer contract written up - you can have a copy if you want (my horse is fully insured though so you would need to add that bit in!) - Hope that helps :)

Yes, they would have to be able to come earlier in the day, or be happy with hacking when its frozen !
Yes a copy of that contact would be of great use ! Il PM you my e-mail if thats okay?

Yes thats fine, going to bed now though (its all the early mornings honest!!) and need to just take out all of the info from my previous sharer and myself (will leave what to write in brackets so it should all make sence) xx

i do hope you are going to include the back feet in this share or your sharer might find it difficult putting the saddle on :D

gaah you beat me to the joke! i wouldnt pay anything for a horse with only 2 feet ;-)

i used to ask for £30 a week for 3 days but this was for full livery on a yard with floodlit school etc. worked out at over half livery but i didnt ask for any extra for shoes or vets or other costs. if i remember rightly i offered them 2 prices, the £30 or a lower price (cant remember what it was i said now) but i would want contributions for other costs as & when they occured but the sharer opted for the "all inclusive" price.

unless you want your horse to be covered if he gets injured whilst sharer is riding him then it is up to the sharer to have insurance i should think. probably sensible for you to cover him 3d party though incase anyone else gets involved in an accident.
