Looking to sell my mare because she is not suitable for my 10 year old as she naps and can throw in a buck, was offered £100 yesterday from someone who without seeing her would use her as a brood mare, thought that was a bit cheeky, surely she's worth more than that , i paid £2500 last july , she's not all bad , Hacks out in company fine , very good in traffic not bothered about plastic bags in hedges etc, does snatch on the reins when asked for contact ,she's had everything possible checked , what roughly should i be asking for her , any idea's ? she's 14.3 and 8 in August .

£100!! That's just ridiculous - would be telling them to jog on! If her issues could be ironed out reltively easily by a competent rider then I don't reckon you would lose too much, worst case scenario maybe 2k or just under? That's assuming that any underlying pain issues have been ruled out and she is just being a madam!

does she jump? have you done anything with her?
For what it's worth 14.3 is quite big for a 10 year old imo. Thats more a horse than a pony and they often have very different mind sets.

She has no pain issues , everything has been ruled out , she's just a madam, oh she can jump , previous owners took her xc training, i have done clear rounds at local shows. Did clear 5 bar gate to jump out of the school once ! Yes 14.3 is big for a 10 year old , but wanted mother daughter share, am now looking to replace her with something smaller , i weigh 10 st , what would i get away with ?

£1000 max I'd say. Napping. throwing in a buck and jumping a 5 bar gate to get out of the school isn't a huge selling point for a pony buyer.... ;)

Sounds like she just needs a stronger rider, and in which case you shouldn't make too much of a loss, presuming she can be shown off to any prospective buyers nicely?

Re what sort you should look for, maybe something native type, a bit smaller but with bone so you don't have to worry about being too big. Not that I think you are I hasten to add! A chukny 13.2 should do you nicely presuming you're not 6ft 3?

i think you will struggle to sell her,
the market is stagnent,
good ponys arnt moving , let alone bad ponys.
which is what she is at the end of the day,

From what you've said, she doesn't sound too bad at all, just not a child's ride. That's not a problem though as she's plenty big enough for a teenager/adult. Can you do a bit with her, maybe get her to a local show or two before selling? Even an in-hand class would be better than nothing but if you could do a small jumping or showing class and get a few professional pics, even better. Alternatively, if she jumps better/bigger than you're happy with, get a rider in so you can get some good pics at home. What breed/type is she? What have you done with her? If she naps, I would only let strong riders ride her until she's been sold and make it clear in the add that although she's good in traffic etc, she's not suitable for a novice.

This is the problem , Can't see Hubby as generous as he is saying ' oh well nevermind we lost loads of money on that horse i'll buy you another '
Could end up horseless alltogether , unless i loan and it's unlikely to find a loan pony that i can move to my yard , i will still have to pay a holding fee to my YO while i wait so it's a bleak situation :(

I've dropped the price of my JC jumping pony to a third of his original price & still not had a single phone call, good job he's still relatively young!

She is medium weight and Irish x , I will be totally honest with people , allready had 2 phonecalls and told the people that i did,nt think she would be right for them ,don't want anyone to make the same mistake i have,

Aim for an experienced teenager, as it sounds like she jumps well I dont think you'll have much trouble.

What is she like with you? Her size is very big for a 10 year old, which i bet she has worked out pretty quickly.

Daughter only been onlead rein hacks which we have enjoyed, she mucks about with me , more experienced friend gets her to go better ,

I am assuming from your post then that she doesn't hack out alone? (you say hacks in company), doesn't work in an outline? plus the negatives already given, unless you yourself can show her off to any prospective buyer nicely, I'd say in the market at the moment you'd be better off starting at around £1500?

But again this depends on what area you live, horse values vary regionally.

Good luck anyway.

When anything is for sale it's only worth what people are prepared to pay for it. So you may have to cut your losses. Why did you buy a horse with all these issues to share with a 10 yr old child.

Tried her 5 times at previous home, was assured she was safe , even took a professional rider to try her who said she would buy her if i did,nt ,turned out to be jekyll and hyde when i moved her . previous owner had daughter same age so i trusted she would tell me if she thought the mare was'nt suitable,
