How much poo for horse on restricted grazing?

I have absolutely no idea as I don't pick the paddocks :(

Are you asking because you are concerned that your horse is doing too much, or too little? :)

The best way I find is just to observe for a while until you get an idea of what 'seems' to be normal for each individual horse, they are all different.

I read once that horses dunged approximately 8 times a night, well hey! My stalled horses never read that bit of information. I wish they had.

My fatty has her muzzle on all day on good grass and does about four in the field, she then has one net at night with about 7kg of soaked hay and does about six in her stable. Too much :(

I think with restricted grazing things look worse because it's a smaller space or the grass doesn't hide them!

If a horse's gut is working properly then they should be pooing around once an hour so around 14- 16 poos a day. If they are on restricted turnout I assume they are still foraging in lesser quantities I would expect to see s=the same but smaller poos.

I had fatty on a grazing strip all summer he was in all day but we got around ten off the strip daily ( he was getting chopped straw to eat ) .

Mine WB does half this on average 2-4 in a 8-10 hr turn-out on good grass (and he is a greedy horse and barely looks up all day) and around 5-6 overnight in his stable, he does not have adlib hay at night as he tends to get porky so in summer has 4kg dry weight and increases to about 6kg in winter - soaked to reduce calories and dust.

I sadly know this because I always count poos when I'm poo-picking :) and as he is on individual t/o it's accurate.

Thanks everyone! I'm just trying to get an idea as to what is normal, so I know he is getting the right amount of forage.

When I move the fencing a bit i do notice the increase in poos, and he always seems to poo a lot more at night time too?!

I think I'm going to start counting... Oh dear that sounds very sad!!!

:p:D Dont count, you need to weigh

No idea what the warmblood does as she tramples them all

My old cob only does about 4 a night but they are enormous, little cob does twice as many but far more ladylike :D
