Dont all laugh at once but my 17hh is a messy bloke and poo's all over his stable.

Yesterday I was going out so he came in earlier than usual and was in from 4pm until 8am this morning so that is 16 hours.

There wasnt as much mess as I expected.

He has got a bigger shavings bed than he used to have and some of it was delicately mixed into his bedd like a warped and smelly version of Apple crumble.

So 16 hours in stable how much should there be and he also had his back treated yesterday so would that have an impact on the amount pooed out ie would he crap more if in discomfort??

What was there was proper poo I checked it not rocks not loose and not rocks and loose just normal.

Well, I mucked Ellie out this morning and counted 11 poos - how on earth did she manage to do that between the hours of 6pm and 7am?!!?

I have no idea what is 'normal' - I guess its like anything, some may just 'do' more than others

I think it is an average of 8 droppings a day. However some seem to be more active! I had a heavyweight cob whose output resembled what you would expect from an elephant and was extremely heavy as well.
I am not sure if he would do more if he was in discomfort but as he is such a big horse I am not surprised he does mega amounts.

I always laugh at the comment that the average number of droppings in a day is 8. all the horses I have owned over the years, and we have 20 at home at the moment, have far exceeded 8.

It entirely depends on how much you are feeding them or how much grazing and what type they are on
They can only poo out what goes in

Hmmh Do you think I'll be happier if tomorrow he has trashed his bed pooed for Britain and I have to put more shavings in?

I have a little paranoia as when I had my old horse on Part Livery I was ill for a couple of days and on return to the yard they said he's very clean in his stable. He certainly was his gut had nearly ground to a halt and I spent a lot of time with a Vet!!

Also, does your horse, knowing approximately the time you're coming, walk about kicking his poo all over the place as 'the time' for your appearance nears - and being more active does another poo or two on top, whereas you caught him out being early?

I thought they pooed on average 1 an hour and widdled about every 6

my boy exceeds both these averages in my opinion and loves to mix it all up into a huge mess.....tut, boys ehh!!

Yes I'm with the one an hour school of thought. ALthough if we go out on a long hack they don't poo as much in the stable that night

Mine also like to make cake mix with their beds/poo/wee.

Mine exceeds 20 plus poohs per day and pees for England. She will pee in paddcok just before I bring her in and still manage to squeeze another one out on lovely clean bed.

I poo pick my fields every day so I do find myself counting.....god I am sad. Anyway I would say my two 15.1hh and 16.1 average about 12 - 15 poos per day so probably 1 every 2 hours. Have never counted less than 10 and never more than 18.

i got a heaped wheel barrow out of my field today, after poo picking last night at 6pm, and again today at about 12ish.

I was not a happy poo picker!! seems to always be sooooo much, from a !4.1 pony and 11.3...... i think they have parties out there at night, and ponies come to visit! poo and then leave before i get there!

LMAO, when i read this, just talking today with a chap who wanted some manure about how many poo's one horse does in a day and decided to count how many there were from the two ponies who are in the yard, free with axcess to the cart shed. there was 19 over night .

they pooh lots and lots and more if in and on hay! about 20 per day . if only pooing 8 times i would be worried about fibre intake and hind gut action! and want a reduction in livery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
