I was wondering what you pay/charge for/as a sharer, and what you get for your money? ie how many days riding, do you do any stable duties?

Also how much would be a fair price to charge for the following:

* 3 days riding, one day weekend if desired (either day)
* Lots of off road riding, menage.
* Opportunity to compete if desired, horse is a warmblood, good schoolmaster, competed successfully dressage (trained and competed Elementary) and Eventing, inc 3 day. Excels dressage and XC. Never has a pole down SJ. Will take novice around a hunter trial.
* Great to hack, no vices. Not total novice ride as will be lazy if you dont know what you are doing. Doesnt rear etc.
* Minimal stable duties, perhaps the odd muck out.

Thanks!

This is in the North East by the way, if you want any more details PM me.

I paid £20 a week when I shared for 3/4 days riding, was not expected or asked to muck out or provide stable care but I did it on the days I rode as I wanted to have the "bonding/pet factor" I also covered hol leave etc. When we were upping the riding to 5/6 days a week it was only to be an additional £5 as the agreement was working so well and the physical help was appreciated........I think (and stand to be corrected as owner is a fellow HHO member!!) There was lots of hacking and a floodlit school. Good luck.

I should pay £30 for my share.
This is for every evening and all weekends. I have to do all stable duties in evenings (except muck out) and same at weekends.
However as I am schooling horse for owner and teaching her I dont pay anything

Im a sharer:
I ride 3 weekdays (but thats my choice, could of had a weekend day if I had wanted it)... and evenings only.... would be allowed to take him to pretty much anywhere if I so desired

Menage, fields, hacking, yard all good.

lovely horse 17hh warmblood, nice chap but not novice ride

I muck out, hay, feed water etc on the days that I do, (but only if it has not been done by owner in the morning already (which 2/3 times it has). Have been known to do her other horse for her aswell if shes late or whatever

I pay a really meesly sum... (will PM it to you) But the owners were looking for someone reliable, and good with their horses, and the money was just a little bonus...

My shaere pays £150 a month.
Has unlimited access to horse, as much riding as she wants. Can have lessons and compete plus has full access to my lorry at no extra charge. Quality horse that has won/placed regularly BD/BE/BSJA.
She has to have 3rd party liability. I ask for 3 days mucking out (days to suit her) although it is likely horse will be on part livery this winter so she won't even have to do that.

My sharer has a totally flexible agreement for Bailey, she tells me at the beginning of the week which days shes coming usually 4 or 5, she generally uses him to hack out and an odd bit of schooling and jumping, I invite her to come when I compete or go to rallies and she generally does. Bailey is a similar standard to your horse except hes getting on a bit, she pays £5 each time she rides and will help with jobs, put his bed down do haylege etc, she will ocasionally bring my other horse in so I get an afternoon off. We get on very well and its nice to hack out with someone too, we went to an adult horse camp together in the summer and had a ball.

My sharer pays £15 per week, for 2 week days - her choice.

She has no chores as such to do just ride and feed.

She has 2 set days but they are pretty flexible and if i am away she has first dibs on riding her for no extra!

My last shearer ( sadly has had to give up as no time now she works

) used to give me £50 per month and half his shoe cost.
She had him 3 days a week to do with what she wanted, one of those days she had to 'do' him as it was a weekend as I only had Mon-Fri livery. All in all it worked out very well for both of us, she sort of had her 'own' horse 3 days a week, I got Sunday at home with kids ect. She had him for about 5 years before she gave him up!

My sharer gives me 25 per week for unlimited access to a lovely RC type horse and free tuition from me (I'm BHS qualified). She generally does do the stable when she comes and will help me with my others although this is something she chooses to do as she enjoys it. She usually just comes a couple of times a week at the moment due to family problems but normally she will come 4-5 times a week.

Mine pays £30 a week for 1/2 the week. She does stable duties on her days and can do what she likes with my horse (within reason obviously).

He is a 16.3 IDxTB and does mainly dressage and SJ.

She competes as often as I do which is most weekends, but at least 2 per month.

Shes my best mate and he is really as much her horse as he is mine, although I own him I allow her to have a lot of input although I have the final say. She has had him on part loan since the day I got him. Her payment covers a little under half of what it costs to keep him on average through the year.

My Sharer Pays £30 ( basically my stable rent) for 3 set days and any others that she fancies... in those days she can do what ever she wishes. If she wants to do stable chores then it is up to her, if not it isn't a problem as I am up doing my other horse so it isn't any more hassel to do them both

Ours has been paying for Tia's shoes which basically work out at £10 a week - but she is free to keep at my parents house and such a good doer, it is more about the time to keep her active than the money! SHe did offer to take a step back when we move as she will only be able to ride at the weekends and T will cost us more. But she's so nice and so reliable, we'll stick with it!
If I was to take a sharer on the bases you are though St Bernard, I'd pretty much want half what J costs me to keep really as they are getting half a horse! However they would be able to compete, have lessons etc, as the only reason I would take a sharer for him is if I couldn't do all that myself! Might not let them go XC though as he can be a nutter and wouldn't want him to injure himself!

I had a sharer for nearly a year and she has turned out to be a good friend now! Anyway i was asking for £25 wk, basically to cover some of my mares livery.
The sharer had choice of what day to ride, pref 3 days inc once at the weekend so i could have some time with my OH and little boy.
We had a manege, superb hacking, there was no mucking out/chores just the riding to do which i think was a great deal! She only stopped sharing because she wanted her own horse, she loved mine so much she went and got an identical one to have!
I will be getting a sharer in the future when my new 4 yr old is a bit older and schooled on more so i can maybe have another baby or work more hours either one of those! I have had a great experience so far with sharing but i have heard a few nasty stories that may put others off,i may of been just lucky finding someone so genuine to share my mare,i hope i find another person that is as nice as the last one.

To answer the question i would say for what your offering £30-£35 a wk for a sharer, depending on how much your horses livery bill is as in most cases this is what the sharer usually covers,or shoeing of course.

Most of the sharers I have had and all the others i know of pay roughly £5. a day so 3 days £15 a week with all the duties that go with the day ie feeding, putting out, mucking out, getting in etc but I think £20-£30 a week for 3 days wouldn't be out of the way especially as they don't have to do many stable duties. Again like the others say it depends on how much he costs you a month and how much you need to help out with the cost. Some people may be prepared to pay more.
