I am wanting to look into having some stables on our yard (we currently only have 3 indoor ones as the rest of the yard is big buildings for the cows) but first it will need a serious tidy up. The field for the stables is used mainly as a junk yard and we have a very small building which has fallen down so would it cost a lot to get someone in to shift all the junk? (bits of metal, old machinery, etc) We have the same problem on the yard (my late grandfather never threw anything away and my dad is too busy to tidy it up) we have 3 old lorries (well the back of them) which have been used for storage and have proved to be very good apart from it is just full of junk.

So would it cost alot to get people to come to the yard to just throw everything out?
It is a nice yard, the buildings are in good condition but it is just a mess.
Who would be the best sort of person to call, is there people who do things like this or would it be a case of hiring a skip and doing it outselves?

Thanks

You can get a skip for metal, which will cost you nothing, as metal has scrap value. Some places will actually pay you for it! We put everything metal in it (as they are HUGE) including old ploughs and corn bins. Think we had 4 loads in the end.

We cleared our buildings and yards out ourselves with our JCB and then had a company to take the buildings down that we didn't want.

We also had a concrete building demolished and crushed, this was around £4,000 per week.

I have no idea what it would cost to do tidying up though

a lot less I would have thought.

I hope it will be less, as we don't have any thing which need knocking down.
It would be possible for us to do it ourselves but it would take a long time as there is a lot to do, and it is finding the time to do it so would be better for someone else to do it.

Thanks for the info on the skips! We have had someone come and buy some metal off us before but as we haven't had any more added since he last came to choose what he wanted I don't think he will be wanting anything else we have.

Have you considered a skip, and hiring a mini self driver digger? Very easy to use, shift it all in v large skip, job done!

Failing that, hire a skip, digger and ask nicely! There's several peole who I'm sure would help you out for coffee and cake!!

Won't be the first time I've done one of these LOL

If you ring your local scrap dealing yard I think they might have a list of people that do shift stuff like yours. You shouldn't have to pay them if you give them the stuff to get rid of it (some scrap is fetching big money lately!) Tell them you want it all moved and it's up to them what they do with it; around here they'd snap your hand off for it! Also, if you have a word with any of your local farmers I bet they know of someone who would do it for you too. We had a lot of rubbish when we moved here and the burnable stuff we piled and had a brilliant firework party complete with homemade wine and sausages; we all enjoyed it so much it became an annual event for all the neighbours!
What you don't want if you value your property that you want to keep is ask or let any tinkers take the rubbish; sorry if that offends anyone but we've learnt from bitter experience and we won't let them on the bank now.
