Hey guys, so how much salt should you feed your pony!? I'm only feeding him salt when he has hard feed which is when we are at pony camp & he needs the extra energy. Otherwise he just has a Himalayan slat lick and no hard feed. Star has about 25g of garlic with his hard feed. Is normal table salt alright just for the small amount of time he has hard feed or should I worry about getting actual electrolytes? And back to the question of how much salt should I feed him? Thanks xxx

Normal table salt is fine, you dont need to be using electrolytes unless he's working pretty hard, to give you an idea ny eventer has a 25g scoop of electrolytes in his feed the night before an event and a 25g scoop again in his dinner when he get home from the event. I'll give him about a teaspoon full in his dinner on days when he has worked hard and sweated a lot, for example days when he's done canter work. The rest of the time he has a salt lick in his stable.

I wouldn't give him any especially if he has a salt lick, if he needs extra salt then he will use that and very few ponies ever do. Adding salt in his feed is more likely to put him off eating it than anything else.
