When I first took on my loan pony, she was underweight (315 kilos) and in poor condition. Over the year, I've slowly improved her condition by working her regularly, changing her feed from sugar beet and oats to pasture mix with conditioning cubes mixed in, put her on a worming schedule and got her weight up to what I think is correct for her height and breed. I weighed her yesterday with my weigh tape and she's now 372 kilos.

Just wondering what the correct weigh range would be for an Arab mare. She's an Egyptian Arab so she's finer boned not one of the bigger built Polish Arabs. I know some Arab owners prefer their Arabs to show a bit of rib but I don't really like Sen's ribs showing and she's not stocky built like the American Arabs that the Western riders prefer.

According to the condition chart, she would be about a 5 or 6 condition wise (I reckon leaning more towards 6 though).

I've heard 360 kilos to 425 but both ends seems a bit extreme. Somewhere in the middle like she is now?
If she is at the correct weight now, how should I stabilize her weight? Lay off the conditioning cubes during summer and start her again on them when the grass goes for winter? I keep her out 24/7 during summer as the fields always have grass although I do top the fields up with hay once the grass gets eaten down enough or during winter.

No idea how much she should weigh but if it's any help i've got a 14hh arab x who's just under 390, but she's probably not as fine a build as your and she's also a bit porky at the moment. Your girl sounds fine!

My 14.3 arab mare weight tapes at 375 kilos.

I would go by how she looks, if she looks just right then start reducing her feed down. If you want a bit more condition on her then keep on as you are until you get her looking how you want and vice versa.

I used to work at an egyptian arab stud and they were extremely good doers and prone to chubbines. They were fed hand cut chaff, sugar beet pulp and a bit of mix twice a day with hay at night.

Thanks guys for the input. Judging from what you all said here, it looks like she is about at the right weight now. She looks fine and has a good covering on her ribs. She looks to be in the same good condition as Slave2Magic's Arab (what a pretty Arab!) so now I think I'm going to have to replan her meals! :P
