Went to see a mare for sale yesterday. Such a stunning face but in poor condition. And she did look sad :( Had sores on her chest, (rug obviously hadn't been off for a very long time) a worryingly huge stomach (pregnant?) no topline, very scrawny neck etc. Owner rode her and told me she hadn't been ridden for over 4 weeks. She looked very uncomfortable. Bucking when asked to canter. Very stiff and wouldn't bend at all on one rein. Another horses tack was used on her and it looked as though the saddle didnt fit. I was told she has no passport. Came from gypsies with a foal at foot. No injections etc and no idea of breed. But, she is so stunning. About 15hh lightweight horse. I can imagine with condition, work, and a list of other things she would be such a nice horse. She was advertised for £1200 but there is no way I would pay that. What would u offer?

I agree with the others. She won't be worth much - when you total up that you will need to get a passport done and vaccs and wormed and teeth - you will probably kiss goodbye to nearly £250. You also have the risk that she could have worm damage if she has not been well managed in the past. Good luck :)

She's not really worth anything at all. But perhaps offer up to £400 if you really do want her. Bare in mind, wormer, passport, injections, teeth, back, scan to see if she is in foal, decent feed, tack etc. It soon mounts up.

So the seller has to get her passported or you need to get one before moving her to be strictly legal.
£200 and they deliver her?

Have you got the 'spare' money tp spend on getting her right? And also were you looking for a horse to ride?

Its hard to know how she will turn out so I would say pay what you can afford to lose. This is why I no longer go to sales, that way I don;t see these horses and don't guilt trip myself into buying them....
