Hello, I am going away for 4 days (mon-thurs) and have asked my friend to look after my two, however I have no idea how much to give her for it!

She will be checking them over, feet picked etc, turning them out in the morning, mucking out, soaking and hanging up haynets for the field and stables, and mixing up their feeds- basically getting the stables all ready for when another girl who lives very close by will just chuck them in at night.

I have an idea in my head. but worried I may pay too little! so help me please :)

Depending on how far she travels I would say £100 in total to cover petrol and est 2hrs max a day work. I may be way out but as I get £10 a day to feed local chickens i'm basing it on that!

thanks for the replies,
yes she is looking after her own, but she is at a different yard (although it is very close by) She lives about 3/4 miles away and is cycling there I believe as it isn't too far

If you want her to offer again and you think she will look after them as you would then £80 minimum. I charge £10 a day per horse for full livery as I find looking after 1 horse takes an hour to do everything thoroughly. Soaking hay is a messy time consuming job.

I use to charge a friend £15 to do their 4 horses. Muck out, hay, rugs, feed, turnout. It wasn't out of my way as I had to drive past regardless, and would take about 1 1/2 hours. 2 of the horses were on rubber mats and a scattering of shavings.

Id say £80 but if you're happy she'd look after them well and to make sure she'd be happy to do it again in future I'd prob round it up to £100 as id want to make it worth her while I case I needed it again

I am going away soon and paying someone £10/day to do the same jobs for mine only with no rugs and haylage nets not soaking hay. It's only one pony.

We pay £10 for a teenager to feed, turnout, muck out and prepare haynets and water buckets for our two horses on a Sunday. Once they turn 18 we increase it to £15. It usually takes them 60-90 minutes.
