I really do have to sell my mare. She is a Clydesdale x, a true heavyweight, 10 yrs old and 16.3. Brilliant in everyway - kind, gentle, quiet enough for a nervous novice to hack alone or in company. But... she was diagnosed with arthritis 18 months ago, the joint was injected and she is completely sound and not on any medication or supplements. She would be fine as a light hack but would probably not be up to lots of trotting on hard ground. She has not been ridden for 3 months now due to my own personal circumstances. I plan to advertise her in the new year and stress that she would need bringing back into work, but this would be no problem as I have left her for over 6 months and then started riding her again with no problems whatsover. What do you all think - I want to price her very realistically. I've tried loaning her out - but it was a complete disaster, so wouldn't even consider than again. Thanks all.

personally as she can do no more than walk(realistically..most people like to trot and canter on hacks) i would only pay £800..but thta is just my opinion, see what others say

Sounds like a lovely horse and the type of rider she will be suitable for is a novice/nervous or for a non horsey hubby whose patner has persuaded him to ride!
You could get up to £1650 as probably wont get vetted at this price. Would say £1000 average, but believe me people do buy these horses.

difficult one as big horse means eats lots, so unlikely to just be a companion. such a shame as she sounds lovely. There are lots of people who just want to do steady walks and occasional trots but probs on something a little smaller. Have you tried the RDA???

Thanks - she can trot and canter, but is not up to lots of trotting on roads. I was thinking of pricing her at £750 including all her rugs - so I'm probably thinking along the right lines.

I don't think that your price is unrealistic. I think it is about right. My horse has arthritis in both of his hocks and he needs injecting once a year at a cost of £400, so its worth bearing in mind the upkeep that the new owner will have.
It is important to keep her moving though, as arthritis is a degenerative disease which will stiffen up if she isn't worked, even if its just a 10 minute lunge.
Sounds a nice horse tho.

by injection do u mean steriods into the joint? if so my mare has had this done also and is hunted weekly on it. the steriods wear off every 4-5months, she goes lame again and we hav her re injected. no reason at all she should only light hack at the mo. (imo that is b4 i get slated!) although obviously the condition still reduces the price of her.
