how much ???? sorry need help,,,, and where to advertise

as title really
in a nutshell advertised said horse few months ago and got no response whatsoever so thought id ask for opions on price in case im well off the mark
gelding 3 year old backed and going forward,
good stable manners good to catch with farrier etc no vices at all
oops nearly forgot hes ID x very stocky for his age lives off fresh air i think

greater manchester why you think it makes a big difference on price?


also coz im dumb forgot to say hes 14.3 at min but a rather large one as rider is 5ft 10 and strictly speaking by his passport hes not 3 till september so there is defo lots of time for him to grow more
 
I wouldn't say much more than £1000 to be honest....he's a nice sort, but a few points

1. 3 yr old just backed - you might do better turning him away over winter and bringing him back next spring. That's what someone else is going to have to do really.

2. Good with farrier? He doesn't have shoes on, so he might be good to trim......but to shoe - do you know?

3. Not a good piccy. I would wear jods and change his saddle so it shows him a bit better, and try not to look as if you're trying to force his head down (and failing).

He's a really nice chap, and I think you'd get more for him next spring with a winter spent all hairy in the field and then maybe a few outings at something (anything) in 2009.

hes seen traffic on the farm and the local housing estate not been on busy roads
scars are from other horses in field nothing major at all just scrapes from playing silly games with my naughty sec c

Must of only recently been backed if he's not yet 3 (a little early in my mind. So I'd say he's worth about £1200 to £1500. I'd probably advertise on Horsemart or similar. Where did you advertise him?

but as i asked for opinions then i can expect some i dont agree with

as for farrier why would i want him shod anyway i keep mine without shoes if its not a neceassary requirement and wouldnt shoe them at 3 anyway so yes your right there he only been trimmed and he was fine with it
 
Not 3 until September???? Is this a guesstimation or fact? And if fact then why on earth has he done so much as a 2 year old?

He has an awful lot of underneck muscle going on that shows he is resistant and has not been schooled in a correct manner to go forward into the bridle. I think £1500 is fair. How much were you asking?
 
What do you mean 'think your way out'?

I don't have an opinion on whether or not he needs shoes - I like seeing youngsters unshod - or older ones if they can cope. I think that's great.

All I'm saying is that to say he's good with the farrier in an advert might imply that he's good being shod where you clearly haven't had him shod, so you don't know how he will be if he ever is.

Not sure how you can disagree to be honest.

But I still say he's a nice sort and will probably sell better after a winter in the field and being brought back into work and shown a few things next spring.

Good luck with him - he's lovely.
 
glad u like him but what i meant was i think hes worth more than £1000
also the pic iv posted is not one id advertise him with as like you say my daughter whose on him is a good advert for reebok

he asnt done any schooling so if he as under neck muscle its from something else
im aware that hes young but hes done no work at all just had a rider on and that would be 2x a week for most 10 mins at a time
 
You see I don't think he is worth more than £1K as he is and in the current climate (unless he's beautifully bred of course), but he will be if he has the winter off and then does a few things in the spring next year.

I think you have a really nice chap that you could get a lot more for with more work and proper schooling next year.

Anybody buying him now has a winter to wait before he grows into himself. If you've got the facilities (ie a field) that's what I'd recommend.

Oh - and I'd put him on Horsemart or Horsequest I think.
 
He's a smart chap, but I feel too young to have even been backed let ALONE have been worked for ten minutes here and there... The three year olds i work with are backed just after they TURN three and then turned away for the winter and start work the following spring. In essence he is a two year old, so will need another year to eighteen months before he can really do anything.
Anyone buying him now would take that into consideration, and calculate livery costs for that time plus the work they'd have to put in not to mention the fact at age two he's had an ADULT sitting on him, so will almost certainally need his back seen to.
You don't know if he has any vices, he might bolt when ridden out in 'proper' traffic! To make such claims on a youngster isnt adviseable. If you want to sell a two year old you leave it as a blank canvas and people get what they see, a two year old unbacked pony, nice natured, haltar trained, been on a lorry a few times, been to a couple of shows, used to kids / dogs etc... That's all people expect of a two year old...
I think 1k would be about right, for someone looking for a pony of that type. Sadly, atm people won't take risks with money...
 
This horse has a strong back, I see nothing wrong with working it lightly.

His conformatin and type is such that he just isnt worth all that much money- you can pick up this sort at the sales for 1kish

No reason at all why a well built two year old can't be lightly backed and then turned away.

I think he's smashin - but agree with others regarding the price - £1.5k max in the current market etc.

The thing against him I think is that at rising 3 and having been lightly backed, it's probably time for him to be turned away to 'think' about things for a while. He would probably be brought back in again after winter to be quietly worked again for a few weeks, and again turned away.

So essentially you are asking for people to buy a 2 year old, and feed and stable it for 2 years before they can do anything with it.

You may actually be better off keeping it and selling it as ready to go as a four year old.

Privately 1400 max...

I see no problem with the little work he's done..he is a strapping lad and quite capable.

as he's "Rising" 3 i'd be inclined to adertise him as such and be prepared to tae 1200 for him

ditto - he looks a nice sort but with curent credit climate plus (as others have mentioned) he is not yet three and would need to be turned away for a bit. Can you post your advert pics?

I would be tempted to keep him if you could and sell on when he is 4.
 
ok thanks for all your opinions will take them onboard and maybe do a rethink
the debate over backing a 2 1/2 year old is another thread really i have my reasons for doing it some agree others disagree thats life
