I feed Speedibeet to my boys who are welshies standing at 13hh and 13.3hh, neither of which are particularly good doers. They get half a round stubbs scoop (before it is soaked so dry measure) each a day.

How much does everyone else feed? They are on 2 stubbs round scoops of alfa a oil and the correct amount of Top Spec balancer each as well per day, this makes up their total feed ration. They then get ad lib hay, both are in work and both in their early 20’s.

I have noticed that one of them has put on considerable condition on this diet (he’s been on it for around 3 months although I only added the Speedibeet in October), not that that’s a bad thing as he is now at a perfect weight.

How much Speedibeet do you all feed when it is an additive to your daily ration for Winter use only i.e., when the grass is not rich and the weather is colder?

When my mare is in work she gets a big round scoop soaked between her evening and morning feed. My gelding gets 1/2 big round scoop soaked between morning and evening. My mare is off work at moment due to an injury so is getting about 1/2 scoop between 2 feeds.

My Welshie gets a handful (dry weight) that I stick into a measuring jug. I then fill the jug up to about the 1 litre mark with warm water. She gets this split into 2 feeds morning and evening. It is really only to give her something to satisfy her rather than to feed her up as she is such a good doer.

Well i havent got in to feeding it properly yet as horsie is holding weight well - perhaps too well and he had 4 days off with injury.

When i do feed it its like a top dressing to my feed so not much at all, he gets 2 handfulls dry a day (effectively one handfull a meal!)it actually makes quite a lot

Other than that i feed topspec balancer and alpha a lite (double handfull in each feed)

He has adlib hay and a couple of hours out on next to non existant grass!!

Even so he is still "chunky". If he doesnt loose any come Jan and Feb when it cools off i will have to put him on a diet. Have always had horses that struggled to keep weight.

I recon next year i will be one of these people who say - my horse is too fat what do i do?!!!!

Pleanty of excercise!!

Dont know about you but mine only has to look at speedibeet and the weight is on.

I wouldnt say its too much unless they are getting fat on it!! Then cut it back a bit!!

1/2 a stubbs scoop of dry weight beet is currently feeding my 14.3hh and 15.3hh twice a day. The 14.3hh is a really poor doer and is looking fantastic at the mo.

I don't think what your'e feeding is too much if your ponies are looking right. Cos how much is too much?

I know they say that you should never feed more than a certain % of a horses' bodyweight in hard feed per meal, but is speedibeet included?

Will be upping my girls' feed once the weather gets colder
