Measured my two yearling donkeys today (Turned one this month..)

Peanut is 11hh or 110cm..
Coco is 10.2hh or 106cm..

How much more would you think they will grow? :D

I don't know, these are my first yearlings, and I'm new to the 'growing'.. So i'm not sure whether they are the same as horses and ponys, but intrested to know..

What is the string test? I could try it! :)

Do you have an adult donkey available to test it on?

Basically, on fully grown horses, the distance between the elbow and fetlock is approximately the same as the distance between the withers and the elbow. Because a youngsters legs are pretty much at their adult length from approx 18 months old (it works reasonably well from 12 months of age), you can use this to predict adult height.

You use a string to measure the elbow to fetlock length and then holding the string on the elbow, turn it so that the other end is above the withers. The gap between the withers and the top of the string is how much the horse has left to grow.

Yes, I have a 6year old Jack :)
I will go out now and give it a go! Will comment back when I'm done! :D:D Thankyou!

Okay, So did it on Jack, and worked out the same distance each way..

Peanut and coco both were about 4-5inches taller.. If it should be done at about 18months old, and they are 12 months old do I add a few inches?

:)

No, more like 1/2 inch - 1 inch as donkeys are quite small (I'm guessing you don't have the giant breeds here). It will give you a good guide even now. :)

Okay, nope, not giant breeds!! Mine are Standards, well.. Jack is about 39" tall, so only just standard I think..

Thankyou for your help! :D

No idea but does it matter, they're just gorgeous donkneys, (or are you planning to ride them?) ;)

Not planning to ride (Well, maybe Coco will be ridden by the children when he's old enough, and hopefully sensible enough!)

It doesn't matter, I was just wondering! They are gorgeous, but I'm biased! :p

Hahaha! Thanks everyone!

Not sure what the P&P will be on them though!!

Heres a couple of pictures of them taken a few days ago, on one of the few sunny days....
