I'm guessing its one of those how long is a piece of string questions!! How long do you spend on average looking after a horse who is out 24/7? Excluding riding, just the time for checking, grooming, feeding etc.

I'm buying my own horse who likes to live outside, I've got a loan horse but he is stabled and a previous loan was also stabled so I'm fine with regards to timescales there I just wondered what the difference between the two was.

i only live 2 mins drive from the livery yard as well which is great!

thanks

If I've not got much time, I can be done in 40 mins. That includes poo picking, and obviously not riding! If I'm riding, I'm usually up there about 3 hours. Including poo picking.

I tend to bring in for dinner, groom and poo pick, before turfing him back out.

I could probably be quicker than 3 hours if I needed to. I don't tend to do things fast unless I really need to!

My yard is 15 mins from my house.

It's going to be a lot longer when he's in overnight during the winter (unless I stop taking tea breaks :p) as he's a bit of a messy git :)

Oh sorry. Excluding riding.

Normally...about an hour and a half? Sometimes quicker, it depends a bit on how many people are around to chat to :p I also don't have any need to rush back home- I live in a shared house so no one getting dinner ready for me, or kids to rush back for etc. Once I've finished work my time is all mine. My only constraints are if I have other plans as well for the evening.

Depends on what we're doing, the weather and the time of year. We have our own place a few miles from home, and in summer we can spend all day there at the weekends. If it's hot we put the big pool up in one of the fields, we have trampoline, bikes, plenty to keep the kids entertained all day as well as having their ponies to groom and ride. On a wet winter's evening after work however, the ponies might just get a quick checkover by torchlight...

Having ponies living out 24/7 makes ownership far more flexible in terms of time commitment than having them stabled.

We have our own yard so we can end up spending a lot of time there, dependent upon the amount of maintenance required.

Generally it would be an hour every day, without riding, to check each one over, groom or fly spray because we have six horses. Ours live out most of the time, but we poo-pick the fields and refresh or top up the water troughs daily.

Thanks for the replies, there pretty much as I expected in terms of time. Just wanted to be sure!,

Yes I'm probable 10 mins there as its uphill.....less back as its downhill. I can take my children as well as I'm so close on Jon riding days!!

I've never loaned on grass livery so it's all new to me!!
