How much time to hear from old owner before going through other channels?

I sent a letter to the address of the previous registered owner of my horse asking for some details on his time with them but I'm not even sure if the man is still alive :( How long would you wait for a letter to come back before going through other channels to find out info?

Well quite possibly and no I know they aren't obliged to answer :) I was just wondering how long I should wait till I go through other channels to find out about him.

I only sent the letter on monday so even if they have replied I don't expect it till next week at the earliest.
 
I'd ring the day I received the letter (wouldnt write back as dont have time) if I wanted to discuss an old horse ... though if they dont reply they may get miffed if you try to keep contacting them .. if you have other sources - give them a ring, wouldnt waste time with letters :)
 
When I traced my horses old owners, the first ones replied about a week later and the second ones about 2 weeks - however they had moved house twice since their original address so the letter took a while to find them! I didn't expect responses from either so I was very pleased to hear from them.
A lot of people don't have much "sit down & write" time so he may be leaving it until the weekend when he has more spare time? What other channels are you considering? x
