Hi, I hope this is not the wrong place to post this, but I hope some of you like playing the "guess how much" game and might be able to help me. I've had a lovely 16hh IDxTB 13 yr old hunter on loan for a year now, and have been asked if I want to buy him. He's a fabulous hunter, jumps anything, pretty sensible. Easy to do in every way, eats like a pony so cheap to feed! Would do a dressage test and SJ if asked I think. No problems other than some large lumps high up on his neck which have been there unchanged for years. Possibly a melanoma, but vet is not totally sure. I've got a saddle, bridle, pair of boots and couple of rugs with him.

How much do I offer??

Thanks in advance!

well i sold a simmilar sounding hunter, same age few months back...
he was £2300 without tack. doesnt sound much but then he was getting on and we needed rid of him !

but with possible melenoma ect that would definaltey effect price downwards as it would put many off.
if they have let you have him on loan for a year chances are they are probably more for a good home than price

With the melanomas (or whatever they are) I would say not that much. Especially as it isn't known what they are, how they'll develop and how they may effect him. if you buy him they'll be excluded from insurance so if soemthing does happen you could end up paying out £££££'s. I'd say £1500 as a guess. Less if you have put in a lot of work with him and improved his schooling or competed him sucessfully.

you could be able to get him cheeply because of the melenoma or whatever it may be, i wouldnt offer a lot as 13 is older than what people typically look for when buying a horse ( but by no means old) If i where you id be cheeky and offer not a lot and see what happens. If you have a pic you could put up it would be a bit easier to have rough idea of price :)

He sounds lovely. I personally would get him vetted first (I did with my loan/view to buy horse) - for outcome, value purposes and vet opinion. Price wise £1,000 - £1,300 which could be too high price for unknown lumps.

Good Luck and keep us posted.
