How much to charge a sharer?

My friend has (hopefully!) found a sharer for her horse but doesn't know how much to charge.

Horse is on DIY livery and my friend will do most of his care and provide food, tack, rugs and insurance. Sharer can ride virtually as much as she wants and have lessons and compete.

Any suggestions? She was thinking along the lines of £25 a week plus half his shoeing - does this sound about right?

I didnt think people usually charged sharers? but just asked to pay half shoeing usually. I think some ask for half dentist, vaccinations, and worming but not too sure. Even if you charged 1/2 for feed saying the horse for instance had 1/2 a bale per day (assuming out day and in night) this would still only be about £7 per week so plus contribute to hard feed £10. bedding £7. So I would think the max you could ask per week would be £17? (+half contributions for other things listed above). I know if the horse was on full/part livery this would cost the owner a lot more and there are still rates for DIY livery to be paid but the owner would already be having to pay these (and current feed/bedding) and getting a sharer is to help them out whether on time, more experienced rider etc. The people I know who share just pay half of the farriers fees and they muck out etc and sort the horse out on the day they ride. This helps the owner as they have some days they dont have to do the horse, but the horse is still exercised and the owner doesnt have to pay for livery services, in exchange the sharer gets to ride but fewer responsibilities/ cost and time investment than having their own- win win! Thats been my experience of sharing arrangements that I have seen anyway .

I think £25 per week is pretty standard so i would think that is fine to ask, however i personally wouldn't be asking for half of the shoeing cost on top of that, it would put me off.
I think perhaps up the price to £30 per week if they can ride as much as they like, but i think the £25 sounds a good figure, good luck.
