Further to my previous post I am now taking all your advice and shareing my gelding.

Here's the spec - how much in terms of £ per week/month and amount of days?

Gelding, 14h, 4yrs old, NF x (mahogany bay in my sig)
Backed last summer and turned away. Not done much since.
Walks and trots at the moment.
1,000 acres of private land to hack, sand school, lanes to ride round.
All tack etc provided.
To stay at yard.

i'm about to advertise mine for sharing... he's done lots, is bombproof, and the sharer will have unlimited riding/competing and no yard duties... all i'm saying is that if he needs to be shod for them to do this (he's currently barefoot) then i'd like them to pay the difference (about £40 every 6 weeks). however, if he stays barefoot they can share for free. i guess it depends on why you're getting a sharer. mine will be doing me a favour by keeping Raff ticking over...

Sorry im rubbish at prices.... but wow clipcloppop thats an amazing deal for someone... bet anyone would bite your arm off for that!!!

I was thinking the same. Perhaps even £30. The advert I will put in will be tailored for the opposite type of person you will be seeking so we're incomparable. £25 could be a good suggestion though. It would cover the basic costs.

i *think* my friend charged £25 per week for share of her horse. he was a green ex-racer who liked to buck.

I charge £15 a week, sharer has 2/3 days, she does what she likes and if i take him competing i always let her do a class if she wants to, hes competed up to newcomers/medium dressage and XC schooled. safe to hack and by no means a plod, but it depends on where you are as to how much you get for a share.

at home (near london) i got £25 for 2 days a week for my old bombproof cob who did a bit of everything.

Just what i charge (a friend of mine had a sharer who payed £100 a month plus shoes for 2 days at home, so i am sure you would find someone!)

Hmmm, I think £25 is a bit steep considering your pony is just broken and the sharer would be helping to bring it on, increasing its value etc. My horse costs me less than that per week to keep, if someone paid me that to share him, I would be making a profit!

I think £30 a week is a bit much to share a horse that someone wont really be able to do much with if he has only just established walk and trot work. And is unshod.

If they can use him pretty much when they want then i dont think £30 is to much not much difference from a lesson at RS once a week

I don't charge sharers at all. The only situation I would, would be if I had a horse on part/full livery. I consider mucking out and help with poo picking etc. to be payment as I would have to pay someone to do this for me. I know a lot of people do charge, but if you're looking for an experienced rider to bring on a youngster for you, I personally wouldn't. I'm not sure the riding school analogy fits as the horse is ready for you to just get on and you get a lesson for the money! Maybe I'm just too nice!

i don't think you should charge much at all considering the pony is very green and cannot even canter.

i would either improve his education before advertising or advertise for free.

anyone good enough to school on a green horse is unlikely to want to pay for the privilege imo

Most shares round here seem to be £25-£30 and often plus some chores.
Clipclop I think you should ask for poo picking as you're not asking for money, it'd save you a bit of time on what can be a tedious task if you're doing it every day, whereas doing it only a few days it's quite nice (can you tell I just poo picked all the poo that was under the snow now we can find it?!).

I just ask for half shoeing costs, i.e. £30 every six weeks. Sharer is more experienced rider and we've got a youngster so she's doing us a favour by schooling him. She can ride more or less when she wants but tends to ride during the day in the week when he wouldn't normally be ridden.

I paid £85 a month for 2 days but would always be asked if I wanted to do more. Horse lived out over the summer, was on hard feed and was bombproof. Horse lived on owners yard so this kept costs down.

I've also been offered share for 3 days with eventing horse for £110 a month to include yard duties but stables have amazing facilities.

Im looking at two loan/shares at the mo. One is a 15yr old ISH on full livery at great yard, i can ride every day he would be my horse for £200 and a 5yr old tb mare at a farm with no school that i could only manage to ride on days off for £60.

Neither involves any stable duties.
