Hello,

Just a quick one..how much should i charge to ride a locals horse..i will be riding him a min of once a week and will probly spend around 2 hours after i am done brushing/riding etc.

I have 5 other horses so i can't do it for free...the time i spend with hers i could be with mine..so i need to get something in return.

He is unfit and spooky at times, it wont cost me in petrol and i am already insured.

I was thinking either £10 - £15 per time??

:D

I'm a freelance groom and charge £10 per hour, plus petrol if its over 7 miles. But thats what I do for a job so maybe a bit different.

Mind you, you do need different insurance if you're taking money for riding a horse, just so you know (obv don't know what insurance you have but normal riders insurance won't cover it)

I know somebody who rides and teaches for a living. Horse is brushed off, tacked up, ridden for an hour, and then sponges off quickly and then turned out. She has huge experience though and has ridden internationally on GB young riders teams, and is a BD accredited trainer. She charges £30 an hour minimum.
I'd say £15-£20 would at least be fair, if not more if you are putting in more to the horse.

I used to pay £12 an hour for a local girl to ride mine and keep them fit. She was a AI, lovely rider, with her own insurance. She used to ride for about an hour and we paid another half hour for tacking up/grooming/washing off time - when people are charging a good rate you have to be pretty nifty in how quick you are..

I would say not less than £10/hr. Bear in mind that the more you charge, the less hours they will be able to afford for you to do..
