How much to charge?

Would it depend on the acreage?

I know somebody who has their 8 acres cut and the farmer has the hay for payment.

Just give him some of the hay instead of paying him. Not sure how much though, I'm guessing he cut it, turned it, baled it and carried it ? How many hours did it take him?

That is the problem.

The field is five acres & I get enough (120 bales) for my two plus I pay him £1.50 a bale to bring it in & stack it & he gets the rest -200 plus bales ( record is 700 from that field but he prefers organic so it hasn't been fed.)
This year he decided to cut it with a four day dry forecast, luckily it was ready for baling Wednesday - he riffled it late morning & then disappeared. The forecast storms arrived at 5pm drenching everything.
I heard the baler at 6pm -he had started baling in the rain with hway so wet you could wring it out. I went out & told him to stop as it would rot but he was adamant it would be ok for hos cows. It was dry again yesterday afternoon & he riffled it again but left the baling till today after overnight drizzle.

None is suitable for horses and not through weather but idiocy.

Ideas please?

He won't be on the field again after this.
