I sometimes look after a friend's horses when she goes away on holiday. She has 1 Shetland, 1 pony(soon to be 2) , and 1 horse. Now she just pays me an amount for doing it as it includes diesel money as I need to visit twice a day.

Person at my yard(DIY yard) is going away for 8 days and has asked if I'll look after hers. Not sure what to charge per day though? She has 1 horse and 1 pony, both easy temperaments. Would consist of turnout, bring in, muck out and feeding. Diesel wouldn't be an issue as I'm at the yard morning and night for my boy as it is.

So, what's the going price?
 
Round here it's a favour for a favour;) I wouldn't expect more than £50 for it, if that, TBH.

Have you considered the insurance side of things? EG are you liable if her horses get hurt or stolen whilst under your care, etc?
Also, what if one of her horses injures you?

Definitely ask her to leave aside money for farrier, vet callout, etc. Better to be prepared. But give her back whatever money isn't needed for her horse's care and keep receipts/invoices for her.
 
At my yard it is £15 for the YO t do it (5/2 are the only 'DIYs' here). I would say that as you are there anyway charge for the time it takes? £10 an hour or so?

I think it massively depends on how much it puts you out, whether you would need a return favour, how much she would expect too.

I yard sit for 23 horses (I mainly do evening yards, hay/water about 10pm, keep an eye on things and 'supervise' the weekend mornings when the temp staff are in. I get £25 per session (£25 for an overnight stay and evening yards, £25 for pm yards (take about 1 and half hours bringing in/turning out, feeding, hays, skipping out). She is a good friend and I am happy to do it.

With regards to insurance, their insurance covers me.

I thinka a 'favour for a favour' is out of the question in this case. We do that with turnout just now. A bit different though when she has 2 equines and I have 1!
 
I pay my neighbour £10 per day to do mine - its a 200yd walk for her & I have 2 fuzzies currently.
I also leave feeds made up, haynets filled etc, & ask for the beds to be just skipped out when am away as dont have a prob with the fuzzies deep littering for a few days. Usually they stay in the same rugs too, tho she will shift/change them if necessary.
That said, its mostly summer when she does them so she poo-picks the paddock & checks them twice daily.

If I go on holiday for a week, then I top up the money a bit, as usually only have to ask her to do 2 or 3 days max each time.
