How Much to feed?

Hello

Could anyone advise me please?

I have a one year old male Rottie (teddy romper is his name). He is 30 inches at the shoulder (and still going) and has not yet been spayed yet and will be spayed when he is a little more mature in 3 months or so.

The thing is I currently feed him 3 tins of meat a day and two large jugs of dry mix - this is split in two meals. Not to mention the odd little bit off rice and chicken and spare rice pudding!!

Although he weighs seven stone - and looks so healthy and shiny - he is so skinny!! He looks like a lab with rottie colours! He is well muscled but in an althetic way not is a beefy way. He is wormed properly and the vets has seen him and hes very healthy.

His dad and mum are HUGE dogs and built like tanks.

Am I feeding him enough? I dont want him too big to keep strain off his hips but just wondered how much other people feed there rotties or big dogs? I know he is still growing so will fill out but just wanted to make sure he is getting enough?

I have had two female Rotts and we are just starting out with a male (14 weeks old). Both the girlies are fairly lightly built (how I like 'em). I would say that if he is active and healthy you shouldn't worry about him. Holly was always mistaken for a Doberman because she was so light but she wasn't skinny it was just her build. If the vet says he's OK then just enjoy him. Rotties are wonderful dogs. Sage is now 15 months old and still tries to get on Mums knee for a cuddle. So much for their "vicious" reputation.
 
I KNOW !!!

Teddy is so soft - I mean we did bring him up tp know his place but he is so gentle and loving - he tries to sit on my knee too!!

He is so sweet - the other day he took his bone over the cat - and dropped it (on the cats head unfortunatly) and looked at the cat as if to say 'will you play with me then?' Alan - the cat wasnt happy but then let teddy lick his face off - he is such a sweet dog - and sooo obdient - they are very itelligent - I can see him working things out sometimes! Dead clever!

Thanks for the advice because I am a fan of thin dogs and he looks so well - you hear so much about bad hips etc.... I just wanted to make sure as he is the first rottie have ever had.
 
Well I don't have a Rottie but I do have an 8 month old Ridgeback!!

He is fed - 6 cans of Winalot puppy food (400gm each) a day along with 3 cups of dried mixer. This is split over 2 meals... he'd eat more if I gave it too him too!!

He currently weighs 8 stone and stands at a guess 28inches.. however he could be more!!!
 
Has he been hip scored? It would put your mind at rest then. Both my Rotties parents were done and were fine so hopefully so will the babes be OK. My Ridgeback, however is on the chunky side and always has been. I don't feed her any more than the other dogs and she gets just as much exercise. She had blood tests done recently and she may have a thyroid problem! So all that dieting for no good reason!!! Poor Matty.
 
as long as they are not too thin and getting a good quality of food I shouldn't worry. My dog is 5 and stands at 36/7 inches to the shoulder weighing in at between 78 and 84kg and he has 4 small scoops of dry food a day and he is a little bit porky! He exercises hard for at least 4 hours a day and hunts so I guess it's like people ...some are good doers. Your dog sounds fine and gorgeous...Go on....get a piccie up ...you know you want to!!!!
