I'm not sure anyone will know the answer to this question, but would love it if someone does.

Has anyone any idea how much it would cost to have semen collected, frozen and then stored?
 
Well I'm assuming we're talking stallions cuz I'm sure it'd be pretty easy and cheap if we were talking about your OH!!!!!

good people to conyact re: semen freezing is Twelmslow Hall Fam. They are very experienced at collection. There are a few variables ,like where you want the semen to be available to i.e quarantine is required for semen to be available for europe and Ireland, USA etc each country has it own requirements. THere is then the cost of storage companies such as Genus have these facitiies and charges are based on how much and for how long.
I would also hope your stallion is graded with an appropriate breed society as this will be required for the issuing of covering certificates and in return passports.The breed society can also help you with ideas .
I think my stallion fo a two week stay with daily collection and all the testing that goes with that [note that not all stallions semen freezes so this is also tested] cost me between £1500 and £2000, the semen is available for Europe , ireland and the UK.

I'm over in North America so the costings would likely be around the same sort of price in dollars I would think. Actually 1,500 was what I was thinking it might cost.

My guy has been pasture breeding up till now and I wouldn't even consider having him gelded right now but a slight change of business means that it would be easier if I didn't have to be concerned with which field he can go in etc and there is no way he will ever be put up for sale so it makes sense to geld him.

He has his breeding licence with his breed society and I have a number of customers wanting their mares bred to him this year.....I would use his semen myself also for some of my mares, however I really have to weigh up the pro's and con's and of course the expense of it all especially when you add on the cost of having the mares AI'd aswell. Not sure it would be one of my more financially sound thoughts to be honest; so I think it will be a no-go but thank you so much for your time anyway.
