Hi guys, can I just ask how much would you expect to pay for someone to visit your yard to catch in one well behaved horse, pick out feet, rug change and feed?
Thanks in advance for replies

I think if they have to make a special trip to the yard then a minimum charge of an hour - so £10-12 PLUS travel time.

That's assuming that it's a regular thing, so a meaningful total to make it worth their while.
Someone sensible, reliable and with horse experience (to spot a colic brewing or nasty limping etc.) is worth their weight in gold TBH. .

Livery yards would charge £2 for rug change only and they are staff on site.

NMW is currently £11.44 an hour for anyone age 21 and over and is going up to £12.21 in April. A freelance groom will also have to factor in travel, their business insurance, and an allowance for holiday and sick pay plus and NI and tax liabilities. Unless the person is already on the yard and prepared to charge for less than an hour I think £15 is the bare minimum.

If they do not have far to travel then £15 being the normal hourly rate for a freelancee and one hour would be the normal minimum charge. If they have to travel far then that will have to be added.

£15-25 depending on amount of travel and if a one off or on-going arrangement for a freelance groom.

I pay £5 for this on an ad-hoc basis (usually a couple of times a week) for a groom whose own horse is based at the yard & consider this very good value for money!
