14.3 connie gelding 5 year old, done a little bit of everything. Selling in a few weeks time. Sarcoid on underside of neck/jaw/throatlash. Had it lasered off but it's grown back again. How much would you reduce the sale price to reflect this?

Either not by much, or potential buyers would run a mile. I'm in the second group (bitter experience).

ETA Just seen that it's grown back. That is not good at all.
No - I'm not thrilled that its grown back. However, he doesn't have any others and it isn't in an awkward place.

You'd have to be giving the horse away & I'd probably still run a mile, especially as its grown back.
I'd probably price about £1k under value with full disclosure, no point wasting someone's time if sarcoids are a deal breaker.

Don't think I will have to give the horse away! He's very nice and has lots of potential.

Is he grey as well? Very tricky to price. I think I would knock £1k off which is effectively covering more laser treatment and see what happens.

Luckily this sarcoid is not in an awkward place and doesn't interfere with tack. Seems like no one is going to buy him then. So might put him out on loan instead? It's annoying as the vet missed it on the vetting when I bought him.

It may be anecdote rather than fact, but my understanding and experience of sarcoids is that if they have one they can often develop more.

2k. I had a sarcoid removed from my cob several years ago it cost £900, Liverpool cream. Didn't grow back but two small ones appeared elsewhere and verucca ointment shifted them. If the horse fits the bill I d buy it and get vet to use Liverpool cream ( which is radioactive) to remove it.

At least 2k off the price; he’s now uninsurable for sarcoids and the fact that it’s grown back so quickly is worrying so you’d want to have money off to cover a good chunk of treatment.

Having dealt with one with a sarcoid that grew back, I would never touch one again however cheap it was, but some people have had happier outcomes and are prepared to take a chance. All the potential in the world is useless if they’re unridable if it spreads.

Agree with Asha, someone will buy him.
As long as you are totally honest and state that the horse has sarcoids hence price of £..... In the advert.
Many will be put off though, I think if you've had a bad experience with a sarcoid horse, you tend not to go there again (speaking from experience here with a very sad and financial loss).

I think if he were older with a proven competition record, it wouldn’t effect his price that much…esp if only one and not near anything important. Could you keep him longer and do more with him?

I'm not put off by them if they're not in an awkward place. I've had experiences with them in and not in awkward places and am still not put off.

Ours was sold to us at full price with no disclosure but I'd recommend giving disclosure so the people who would run a mile can and you'll only be left with those that aren't so bothered. Take pictures and say they can be sent on request and mention in the post it's not in an awkward place and he hasn't any more.

Maybe knock £500-1000 off but be aware people may ask for more, that's up to you if you take any offers.

You can only try and if you don't find anyone pop him on loan.

Sarcoids wont put many off that aren’t showing, you will find a good wee home but it might take £1k off your price or so. Or alternatively pop him out on loan 🥰
I hope I can find a good home for him - he's a cracking pony, bought him unbacked as a 3 year old, not put a foot wrong and has a massive pop in him. He's a very sweet boy and anyone would be lucky to have him. I'll have a good think about whether to sell or loan. I might do a year's loan and then if no other sarcoids pop up and doesn't cause any issues, sell later.

Thanks. Yes, planning on full disclosure and to let them talk to my vet. I wouldn't have bought him myself if I had known about the sarcoid, so prepared to give a big discount, if I can find the right home.

My mare had several sarcoids at 5 yrs old, had them frozen off and have never had one again. (she is 26 now!) If its a nice pony why don't you have it taken off by another method and keep him/her. Liverpool cream can be really fierce, the freezing was quite simple and painless afterwards.

I have had several sarcoids removed from horses and always feed Sarcex afterwards in the, possibly vain, hope that this will boost the natural immune system. Not had one regrow but no idea if the Sarcex helps but for sure I will not stop feeding it!!

I've personally had a very bad experience with sarcoids that ended with pts, so I wouldn't buy at any price.
However, I know some people aren't bothered. I'd probably advertise at 'full price' but mention in the ad price negotiable due to a sarcoid.

I would advertise with full disclosure and see what responses you get.

I sold a mare who had sarcoids for over £10k, 4 years ago, and she was bought with Para-Olympics in mind so very high vet involvement.
She was 5 stage vetted and the vet didn't blink at the mention of sarcoids and neither did the buyer.
