How much to send a vet 130 miles to do a vetting.....

I would like to send my vet to do a vetting on a horse that is 130 miles away from home...
Would the cost be completly sky high do you think?

I only ask because I remember 10 years ago that I sent a top vet up to Cheshire from Lambourne to do a vetting and that was just £200.....

But I guess prices have gone out of proportion since then?

Will ring vet tomorrow to get a quote anyhow but was wondering if anyone has sent their vets similar distances to do a vetting recently...

This may not help much but I had new pony vetted last Tuesday and the cost of travelling(inc VAT) was £89.56.And that was just over 60 miles.x
 
Thanks BB's-Yes I may have to do that- its just that I have used so many so called ' reccomended top vets' before who would quite frankly pass a donkey on 3 legs to go eventing...
Would just really like to use my vet this time!! But may have no choice!

A full vetting is now £150 is that right??
 
I've dug a bill out from last year when my vet travelled about 50 miles to do a vetting. The travel bit of the bill was £141.00 on top of the vetting + bloods of £146.00.

I paid £280 for a 5 stage but that included a £20 charge to have his bloods taken and stored.
 
£141 for travelling 50 miles? That is almost double what Roany Ponys vet charged for 60 miles.

Quite a contrast! Does not help that am in a very expensive horsey area so I suppose quote is always going to be on the higher side..

I remember when it was just £90 for a 5 stage ! (well, ok 8 years ago....)

I think I am resigned to using a vet in the area...
 
I know.Its bloody terrible.I chose to have my own vet to do it but you may well save some money if you use one nearer.
I nearly offered to take the vet myself,it would have only cost about a fiver in my little car!lol

BB's that is a great idea- had not twigged that they were in Devon I always assumed they lived in the wilds of Cornwall or somewhere near!

My 5 stage vetting cost £160/180 (can't quite remember) recently and that was for a local horse.

So, you might want to find a local vet down there to do it.

Have you thought about asking Henryhorn (not sure what area of Devon she is in), but she might be able to recommend a vet she trusts.
 
When I wanted a vetting done some distance away - I simply got a local vet to them out (not being their own vet). Or failing that, If you can take the horse on trial - even for like 3 days - you can get a vetting done by your own vet at home then!
 
I had a 5 stage done (no bloods), it was about 20 miles away from where my vets are and it cost over £200- I think they charged about 50p a mile? They did say they wouldn't travel much further though, due to travel time.
 
as its near Exeter I can reccomend an excellent practice of equine specialist vets Western Counties Equine Clinic. They have excellent vetting facilities on site (would always take horse to them rather than them to horse due to the facilities). Would also recommend Anja as being fantastic (she pinpointed in 5 mins two causes of lameness in Dan that three other vets couldn't spot after 18 months!!) but I think she is concentrating on surgery and not doing 'standard' appointments at mo but all the vets are equine specialists and many in the area would recommend them
 
forrest we have some excellent vets round here, pm me for their numbers.
There are specialist equine only ones or general ones like my own practice, our vet has no qualms re failing a horse he vets here whether we are clients or not .
Have a look at some of their websites, I wouldn't waste my money sending my vet all that way, if they charge you £60 an hour it will cost hundreds of pounds...
