When we were in the States my husband really fell in love with the Quarter horses we rode and out of interest looked to see how much it would cost to import one. Unbelievably the figures he saw quoted were in the region of £30,000 !

Would be interested to know whether that was average!

If you're still interested in Quarter Horses then speak to Shuna Marden (sp) she was responsible for importing and developing the breed in the UK. She's based in Aberdeenshire.

It cost me about $4000 to ship a horse from the US to the UK, but that was in 2006 before the price of fuel went insane. I'd bet it's a little bit more now.

My word thats a big difference in price, I was told that the cost of quarrentine and shipping from the usa to Amsterdam is just under $5000.

Yeah, my horse went via Amsterdam. It would have cost much more (not as much as $30,000, however) for her to fly into Stanstead.

If you do ship a horse, for the craic I recommend trying to explain to the lost luggage person in Schiphol that you're staying in a place called the "Horse Hotel" that night. Surprisingly, it's not on their list of airport accommodation.
