I am backing my sons 3 yr old section a pony and he has sat on him no probs but he is only 4 and cannot ride him as such. I know a few light adults that could sit on him and some capable older children but i keep him at home and if need be would like to ride him myself if need be on occasion!

depends very much on the rider some riders have lighter seats than others i would say about 9 and half stone max also depends on the build of the pony i do everything on my section a including showing him at a big ish show tomorrow and i am about 8 and half stone may be a little more we have also been hunting, dressage showjumping hope this helps

Well i have a finely build seca who is in his 20's the one in my sig. I wouldn't let any more than 8 stone on him. I did get on him once when he was playing my son up, i am 10 stone and 5'8, he tried it on with me too lol. My legs were nearly trailing on the ground.
I know they can probably take much more than 8 stone but as yours is so young, i would be careful with the weight thing.
I wish mine was about 4 hands bigger, he is such a fun pony.

It depends on various factors, including build, is it a fine built or more solid? and how tall? In general, the 8 stone mark seems to be the accepted weight limit. At just 3, I would be inclined to suggest 6, but most important is the ability of the rider and the time spent riding.
