My shetlands 9.3hh and i started riding him 2 years ago and i was about 6 and a half stone, and he never struggled to carry me, as he was always really strong in open fields wanting to gallop off :) i now have a loaner for him as i ride a bigger horse, but the girls are only 3 & 5 and hes getting quite naugty with them, like refusing to move, walking really, really slow or rolling with them on him and generally taking the micky because as soon as a confident rider gets on him hes as good as gold haha :) But basically i'm wondering if i'm now too heavy to ride him, as im 8.2stone? I did have a go on him the other day and he didnt seem like he was struggeling, but don't want to hurt him? Thanks

I weight 8 and half/9st and I've ridden two shetlands recently, they certainly weren't struggling, one threw me off twice whilst having a "fun" moment and the other I've hacked out a few times for over an hour :p
hope this helps a bit :)

I also feel you will be fine on him.
I have a shetland of the same height and have found the same, they get used to a certain riders size etc and once their is someone much lighter onboard (as in a tiny child) they seem to think that means that they can do as they wish.
