Following on from my post "Where Can I Find..." where I am looking for someone to come and have a sit on Henry before my friend rides him (she's not confident enough as he hasn't been ridden for a long time) I sat on him and he dumped me sharpish, I think because of my wieght, I weigh just under 9st.

How much weight do you think he could take? He's 11hh, we think a Shetland x Welsh A (maybe), he is stockyish and very fat, although none of the pictures show this very well. Here are the pics ...

ETS: Just incase anyone notices his rather long feet, the first 3 were when we first got him and he has had his feet done twice since then :)

Lol have to say I think he's very cute, but obviously biased :p He's the kind of pony you want to give a big hug, but you'd be lucky if you got near him! I'm the lucky one he allows to catch him in the field and even in the stable ... No one else has a chance unless he knows them very well

Hehe. My Mini shetland is like that which can be good and bad :p x

he should have been able to carry your weight on a walk.. a shetland can carry 10 stone if need be, read that in a book. but for comforable riding and jumping i would say no more than 7 stone, just for the pony to have fun and not be under any strain. but for a short walk he would be ok.

Ahh okay ... Maybe i'll try and get on again then if other people have the same opinion, just to walk around the school, he was fine with me just sitting, it was when he actually moved that he shot of, reared and dumped me lol.

I'd say anything up to 8 stone, shetties and welshies are bloody strong! (Used to carry the celts into war must have been a funny sight!) So long as the pony is well muscled you should be fine!

Thanks :) hes very fat with zero muscle atm lol .. And he is certainly strong! I've given up trying to keep hold of him when he tanks off in his headcollar, it only results in rope burn across my hands and him still running round the field/school anyway
