Hi everyone, im a newbie! I have a Sec D who is being broken in at the mo, I think he is to small for me. Ive had him since about 9 months old & he just hasn't grown like i thought he would have. How much do you guys think he would carry? He's about 14.3hh. Thats not me riding him, ive not rode him yet. I get him back this week.

How old is he? Welshies are slow to mature so don't tend to reach full physical maturity til 6/7. My boy was a 14.1 when he was being broken in as a 3yr old, now at 7 he's 15hh so you may well not see much growth and then he'll surprise you with a bit spurt!

He's 4, he hasn't filled out much yet either. He's still quite narrow. So im hoping that this summer when he's out on the grass that he'll fill out quite abit.

Although he wasn't a welshie my youngster suddenly shot up and out on grass at 4 1/2 by nearly 4 inches and as he built muscle up as well as put on condition he became wider again. I would see what he is like by the end of the summer and fingers crossed he will have a spurt! looks lovely by the way!

I think he will fill out a bit especially when in work and he will build up muscle, i would have thought 14.3hh for a welsh is a good height How much did he grow from 2?

I think you've got a bit more filling out in the pony to go yet then!! Don't worry just yet, with the work will come muscle and then turning him away and lots of lovely grass I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised!

My lad was fairly narrow too, I was always concerned because he was practically pigeon chested but he blossumed...eventually!

from this, rising 3 before I got him

I would have thought 12 stone wouldn't be a problem once he's fully matured. Not sure about what he should be carrying at the moment though.
