Just canvassing opinion - how much work would you normally do with a 4yo 16H polish warm bloodxISH. just got him back from schooling where he was on an hour a day for 6 days he has come back a different horse, a dream to ride, still baby sharp but nothing nasty. I want to keep him going well so am hacking him around the hills for 45mins to an hour every other day he is sound and forward going, just dont want to spoil him doing too much or too little!

i'd do a maximum of an hour a day of steady hacking, or i'd either hack half an hour then do flatwork for 20 mins, or do a maximum of 30 mins (or 40 if a lot's in walk, relaxing) flatwork on its own, 6 or 7 days a week. i'e. work him once a day, for no more than 20-30 mins flatwork, or 1 hr hacking. hope that makes sense! he's still a baby, even if he looks big n strong.

We tend not to do much with four year old's at my yard.

They are all broken in at three then turned away. Brought back up at four and ridden through the spring and the summer - and then turned away until the following spring. They then come back in to work at five, and training begins in earnest for them.

Most of them are pretty big horses, and are given the time to mature quietly.
