Must have:
-space to carry 2x16.2h
-have a solid aluminium floor
-working electrics etc
-a middle partition
-be in a tidy working condition
-have a window(s) at the front to let light in

Not bothered on make/model, just needs to be in good working order.

Need to know how much i will need to prepare myself to pay!

(also good places to look would be handy!)

thanks

I think only ifors come with an ally floor?

Rice use plastic now. Bateson use plastic and steel.

ETS: be aware that aluminium can corrode so don't just assume an ally floor is safe. Check it.

I would prefer a hard wood floor to aliminium - most australian horse floats have a wood floor. Yes you have to check them, but you do with any floor. I am replacing the floor in my float but it has been left out in all weather for the last 10 years, and I am being conservative. It is not that expensive to replace.

No idea on prices in UK but in Australia you would pick up a float like this (wood floor though) for about $6-8 000 AUD.

You would probably be looking for one of the bigger models of trailers - so IW 510 size or equivalent in Rice/others.

For a good, well maintained 2nd hand I think you should budget at least £2500

ouch.. i was thinking more like 1k! Im not expecting anything fancy, just something that works and is safe, do these not exist then? :(

thanks golden star will do that!

I sold one with a brand new wooden floor and in good working order for £1400. I bought my Ifor Williams 510 that was 2 years old and in excellent condition for £2800.

I have an old rice that takes my 17hhTB with ease and room for 2, aliminium floor, window at the front, lights in working order, and is tidy (need to just finish off the paint job when I get some nice weather!

It's only a rear load/unload but mine all back off it with ease.

I'll have it up for sale soon for about £700

Crikey I didn't know my Bateson floor was steel and plastic! still it is is now 5 years old and whistled through its annual trailer check (by the lorry guy) and he said the floor was as good as new.

Second that you will need to look at around then £2.5 for a good one. Check on here as there a lot of gotchas you would never think of...so. Bateson unloads on the left, Ifor on the right. Bateson so you can always get the horse out, Ifor don't like to unload on what could be a road. Older ifors were better as the newer ones had problems with build quality ( now sorted). Bateson have a lower ramp so have been great for when I have had fussy loaders. I looked hard at both these trailers but went Bateson as I could get all the extras I wanted in my budget, so window at the front of the trailer and mirror so I can see to reverse.

I wouldn't write off good solid wooden floors. Nothing wrong with them.

My lovely Indespension was £1700. She is great. She does have a wooden floor though. On the plus side, it weighs less than an ifor, it doesn't rattle like an ifor, it has a bigger window than the 505, and it has proper split partitions. And it cost less than a similar aged Ifor would have done. I love it. It is super quiet to tow, can hardly tell it's there. They are pretty rare though as not made any more. My trailer man says he really rates them too :)

I have just bought a lovely Rice with independent suspension. Takes 2 x 16.2, although I'm sure, looking at it, that my 17hh ID will fit comfortably. The chassis is all sound, it is front and rear load/unload, everything works. It has recently been painted. It is 20 years old and has the original floor - planks front to back underneath and top layer is planks side to side, then rubber matting.

The floor is ok although I am paranoid about these things and will be replacing it so I KNOW it's new.

I paid £950.
