Quick question as I couldn't find anything defining online.

I have an 11.2hh Section A gelding, who currently doesn't have a job, bar the odd lunge/longrein. I'm thinking of losing a bit of weight and bringing him into some gentle hacking work.

What would be the maximum weight you'd put on him? He's 9 years old too so age isn't a factor in this.

Would appreciate any replies, and apologise for the question, I know you get a lot of people asking these types of question!

7/8 stone, for me depends on height to a certain extent, if he's got a too tall rider he'll struggle to cope with the dynamics. Hard to say without seeing him but imo they're not that strong.

well out o curiosity i looked into something similar earlier on today and came across a military website explaining how they match soldier to horse. they say that a horse should not carry more than 20% of its weight including tack. but thinking most military horses are well built so for a wee welshie i personally would say about 15% of their weight but thats just my opinion :D

i'd say probably 8 st i had a 13.2 welsh x arab on loan and he got a sore back from a fairly big 12 yo girl so i would be very careful! safe to say she wasnt riding him for long!

Thanks guys - I had an intitial thought of 8 stone, so wasn't far wrong.

Here's a photo of him, now I've managed to work it out!
