How much would you expect to pay for backing?

I had a terrible situation occur when I booked a trainer to come and fetch my youngster, the trainer was basically sent away with a flea in his ear. I had done all my checks with them but the trainer turned out to be a sadistic bully with my baby and that was before he was even loaded.

So I decided to have a freelance trainer in who was highly recomended, he charges me £90 per week to come to me, he will be coming 4/5 times per week. The down side is that I had to fence off a nice flat area of my field, which was hard work as the ground was so hard at this time of year, but it has been great for my confidence as well as I am an assistant to the trainer so he has to learn me as well as the youngster.

The problem is with some trainers prices and I got lots when I first decided my baby was ready to break, quotes ranged from £100 to £190 per week and completion times averaged 5/6 weeks, is that the total breaking outlay will always be more money than my pony will ever be worth, especially when you add on the purchase price.

My baby is a newforest so only a pony and most places had the same charge wether it is a horse or a pony, I do not have my horses to make money as they are all family pets but at somepoint you have to justify just how much is too much.
