I have been invoiced £45 a day (with mucking out etc, and assuming they gave him hay)... which I think is bit expensive. The days the vets actually did any work on him has been charged seperatly.

my insurance will pay for some of it, just thinking vets are being greedy! Week of being there is more than my normal full livery bill.

I've paid between 27 and just over 30 per night depending on what sort of bedding you want. That includes everything, mucking out, checks, walking in hand and choice of hay haylage and feed.

I was persuaded my horse needed to stay for two nights, although I wasn't keen on him even staying for one but it was necessary just in case something didn't work first time... after one night they said he could come home but only if I paid for both nights as it was a "fixed" price - £21.90 a night for stable, soaked hay, and bedding, I provided his feed, and the nursing care was not included so the daily charges were ultimately much higher.

Mine charge £10 a night including feed. I nerved myself up for a huge bill and was really amazed.

Mine stayed one night at the vets with haylage and hard feed and it was free :) probs because there farrier wasnt told he was there 2 ne shod so not my fault lmao was very nice of them me thinks :)

Just had my bill through from a hospital in Newmarket. My mare went from a tuesday morning and came home on saturday eve. £217.50 in total so thats about £50 a day I think! Thank god for insurance!

Mine was something like £45 a day a couple of years ago. Mine are insured with NFU who pay half hospital livery so I was steeling myself to pay the other half (she was in for a week) but NFU paid all of it - God bless 'em!

Jojo_ what vets is your horse at.

I worked at one of the vets in Newmarket and think they were around 45 a night. They are mucked out twice a day have at least 3 bales of shavings a day. Hay around 3 times a day. Also feed (which isnt the cheapest in the shop) the horses get groomed at least twice three times a day but then remember you are paying the yardies wages. They hold the horses for x-rays, for the vets every command and also if the horse is in for colic the yardies have to go hand pick around 2 sacks of grass per horse. So i honestly dont think its that expensive

Mine was at very well known horsepital & as Petplan only pay half livery & nursing I rang accounts on the Monday morning (was admitted as emergency on New years day). They told me it would be £50 per day (£25 livery & £25 nursing).

After he had been there 10 days I asked how much the bill was upto as was worried it could be nearing my 5k limit. Imagine my shock when the vet casually mentioned livery & nursing was £1,400!! She apparantly forgot to tell me it was actually £140 a day as he was in intensive care.

Along with my excess & a few other things the insurance didn't pay, I ended up with a bill for just under £1,000!! Seriously not impressed with them, I was expecting £250 and ended up paying £700 for livery & nursing :(

Bloomin eck that IS a lot!

My vets charge £23 a day for intensive care and £18 a day for normal livery, I can't honestly remember if there was a nursing charge on top of that but think that there may have been.

Star was at a well known Horsepital for 10 days and NFU paid half of the livery bill which was £300.
She had another stay a fortnight later but only for 5 days.

Sheesh! That does sound steep!

I pay £15 a day, and the insurance co. generally covers half of it :)

£21 a night for livery and another £21 a night for nursing care. They split it so the insurance companies pay up as they tend to include the nursing care in the vets fees and the livery fees are dealt with separately under hospitalisation which not all policies cover (mine only pay £250 total for this) and my horse was in 8days so have spent nearly all of that now!
