Hey guys

How much would you expect to pay for...

16.2hh 6yr old gelding, X-p2p/hurdler, been out of racing for a year, basic schooling, has had hobday op so can't race anymore. No old injuries.

What would you expect to pay for something like this?

Depends, does he hack alone? Ok in traffic? Has he hunted and was he well mannered to hunt? ( Some p2p'ers don't actually go hunting to qualify ). Lot of horses similar to this are just given to good homes. I'd probably pay a grand max if he is nice, good temperament and confo.

What's he done in terms of schooling? So is he jumping from a nice canter, will he be able to go out and do a prelim dressage test/ 80cm SJ round/ 75cm ODE... Does he hack nicely? Is he well made? Will he pass a vetting as fit for your intended use? And is he useful looking- will he go to 1.10m/ medium dressage or thereabouts if he's schooled properly?

It's quite variable. Reg was at this stage thereabouts last year and if you'd offered some of the prices here you'd have been laughed out of the yard as he is a decent horse.

If he's not whappy, I'd think how much you'd offer if he wasn't an ex-racer and go from there. But £1500-£2k as long as he's safe and sound.
