How much would you offer for 3yo cob?

I'm looking at buying a couple of lovely cob babies, from the same place I got my superstar 'sports cob'! Just wanted to sound people out and see what I should be offering, as their pricing is a bit vague and I obviously want to get a good deal.

Two geldings, one about 14.3/15hh, smart Welsh D x cob, the other is a more solid 14.2 ish, coloured chunky cob. Both are 3 and a half yrs, unbroken, pretty much unhandled apart from vaccinations, foot trimming etc.

I bought my current horse from the same people for £550 at the same age, about a year and a half ago. The people selling haven't advertised them anywhere and said £1400 ono for the two. When I bought my other horse he was advertised at £800, so £250 more than I paid in the end.

I was going to offer £1000 for the two, does that sound about right? Or should I go lower? I don't want to insult the sellers, but also know they're keen to shift them and I'm also aware that these two aren't as good quality as my other horse (more solid and safe, less sporty) but I'm not sure what the market's like at the moment for cobs!

Any advice from people in the know on the current cob baby market would be appreciated!

agree with the others ideally you'd want to get them for 1k but since the owners aren't advertising they don't sound desperate you may end up paying just a little bit more

Actually, I disagree with the other posts, try Dragon Driving and check out their prices, if they are still colts, then you have to add that amount into the equation. As they are still fairly unhandled, I would offer around 800 for the pair and get them to come back to you on it. Don't make excuses, but have reasons ready for the lower price. Good luck

They're gelded already... and the sellers are motivated in as much as they have too many horses and want to sell some...especially before winter as they have to bring them into the yard and feed/hay them.
